So I have just picked up my Alfa GTA.

For those of you who have had the privelage of having a v6 will agree the engine looks superb.

My question is how or what would you use to polish the engine block to make it look really shiney.

There seem to be pok marks which I would imagine have come from the heat of thre engine.

Any suggestions?

I wonder if that Duraglit stuff would work? I remember my mum using it to polish brass ornaments around the house?

You could try Autosol but if it's a rough casting there's not much you'll be able to do. Enjoy the car!!

Congratulations on your purchase!

What colour spec is yours? Mine is a 2003 Alfa Red with Autodelta air filter and Ragazzon exhaust with silenced mid section.

I use Autoglym metal polish for the inlet pipes. Not sure about the block though.

Its Pewter Grey.

A Dec 2003 with 21,500miles. Immaculate condition.

Brilliant vehicle. A little twitchy on the front end when you put your foot down from stand still but unbelievably quick when you just cruising.

Thanks for the responses.

Excellent choice of vehicle!

As the block is unpainted, the best thing to do is to get a wire brush and carefully remove any corrosion. Then use something like ACF50 or Scottoiler 365 to prevent any further corrosion occurring.

You could use Autosol or even Brasso to polish the block but then this will take a very long time and will be quite difficult to do properly, all of which is time wasted not driving the car!

Mr Muscle Muti-Task for the Bathroom, spray onto some kitchen roll not onto the engine, it will take a few goes over a few days but it will look like mine in the end, good luck.

Handy tips.

I hate to think what my engine bay looks like. I haven't had a chance to look since getting the car liberally coated in mud at Goodwood FoS a month ago.

Welcome to the joys of the Alfa V6. Not clear to me whether you have a 156 or a 147 but either's a splendid and original choice...
