Been scouting the Cayman S classifieds on here and on the Porsche UK used car locator and there seems to be hardly any difference between the price of cars at OPC's and private sales.

There have been a few cheaper cars on PH (£37.5K) which seem to have sold quickly but the rest with a half decent spec only seem to be around a grand less than those for sale at OPC's.

Buying from an OPC you get a years full warranty, Porsche Assist and know the car has already had a full inspection. You also dont have the usual hasstle of buying from a private seller.

Do the private prices seem to close to the OPC prices or is it just me?

Well, for all the reasons you just outlined, you should be in a good position to negotiate with a private seller, if that's what you want to do. They can ask what they like. They can't force you to pay it.

True but a lot of the cars on PH have been there quite a while. Only the cheap ones or ones with big spec (albeit with higher miles) seem to shift

The std warranty on new Porsches is 2 years, so if you buy one <1 year old privately it'll still have the balance of >12months left.

When I come round to selling my one I'll make sure it has at least 6-8 months OPC warranty on it and the price is reasonable when compared to OPC forecourt stuff. Like most private sellers I'll be flexible on price the OPC's are not.

If you see one you like try a punt at a low price and gauge the reaction. You might be surprised as private owners will always have some movement in their price or they'll never sell it. Which might explain why some cars here aren't selling.

Just 2p worth biggrin

Remember the warranty is "only" £800 ish to buy yourself from Porsche so you can easily haggle the price downwards to at least account for that.

You get all warranty and Porsche Assist buying privately as Cayman's aren't yet a year old so will still have at least 1 year on the warranty.
