Notwithstanding the weather on saturday, I was a bit alarmed when glancing at the guage to see that it had shot off the scale! This was 1/2 way to the 'Dales

(commiserations are due here, to the couple stuck in the middle of Ilkley, mid traffic jam, in an overheated Chim.)

Anyway, Water temp is ok, engine running fine, no smells, leaks, and I know the oil if anything, is getting near to needing a top up... So let the car cool down for an hour and try again. On switching on, the oil pressure guage swings right the way up to 80-90 and then off the scale again when starting the engine. So I am summising (as the guage is at least registering) that the sender unit has packed up. Unless anyone out there can shed more light on this???

Very likley the sender unit. Same symtoms about a month ago, new sender required. This is my second one in three years. The previous time the gauge started going down at revs which was more worrying!

Had exactly the same problem last year - guage off the top of the scale. New sender unit was required.
I'm now on my third in less than two years after that one started leaking. They're not cheap either.
