Right then chaps. I joined the BMW and barge fraternities simultaneously a couple of months ago when I bought my 535. So far I love it to bits, despite it having cost me £320 in tyres (nice ones).

This morning I notice that the service indicator has moved from the fifth green light (only - is this normal?) to the yellow light, and it says 'Oil Service'.

Now, as he's getting on a bit and the MOT is also up in October, I'd like to start building a relationship with a specialist I can trust. Can you recommend me a relatively local one? I'm in North London, with frequent forays to York. Thanks!

Where would you rather have the car looked after? North London or Yorks. Labour rates in York will be much better than in London, but how long do you wish to be without the car?

Atlas Autos, Sherriff Hutton in York has a good reputation.

Or have a look on this link for more choice.

Thanks.

London is probably easier - I'm here all week and north at weekends. But in theory I could leave the 535 up north for a week, and train it down here and back up...

Lewis,

The Guy I brought my car off had it looked after by a specialist in Bucks which is exactly where my 525 will be going back to (i've still got 2 green lights on - 184k). I think i've got his details in the service folder in the car - i'll pop out at lunchtime and have a look for you.

As I understand he is an ex BMW Mechanic

Not a BMW specialist as such but I use Harrow Service Centre when I can't fix it myself.
Excellent service, reasonable labour rates (£55) and they've been there for the past 10+ years.

Own a couple of Alpinas too I believe.
