In the Unmarked Police Cars on the A23 thread there is a comment that Sussex Police are investing in traffic police as part of a campaign to get their KSI figures down. I have responded within the thread about some theories as to why the Sussex KSI figures might be high.

Then got home this evening, popped round to my parents where my mother spoke to me about this accident http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/6919619.... Apparently my mother knows a witness to the accident who actually cradled the young child until she died.

It rather brought home the dangers of the roads, and made me wonder more if Sussex roads are less safe than others?

I am sure there will be KSI stats per county somewhere on-line.

I don't think it is (in many cases) the road at fault but rather the level of competency of the DRIVERS who use those roads.
I would really like to see 'stats' of how many drivers who had received further/advanced driver training had caused or were involved in KSI incidents.

Well in Sussex there are a lot of deer around, and there is also apparently a high number of single vehicle accidents. Many of these are thought to be deer related.

Also Sussex has only a copule of miles of motorway, and very little dual carriageway (particularly East Sussex) this makes drivers more impatient etc, and potentially overtaking at wrong place. In addition to the need to drive faster on single carriageway roads to maintain an average speed similar to other counties.

That all sounds fairly reasonable. I imagine it would be possible to obtain the information in respect of accident stats (i.e. main factor etc) somewhere, if not on-line then an FOI request.
