I'm a bit of a mechanical numpty so forgive me if this sounds daft.
I have managed to find a new 38mm pipe to fit to the swirl pot. Can any of you mechanical Guru's advise me on how to get the air out of the system and to get water running into the pipe. Is there anything else I need to be aware of? Thanks, Mike.biggrin

Buy a large funnel whose spout will screw tightly into the top of the swirl pot. When it's screwed in, mark the spout then trim the spout about 10mm below the mark.

Mix up some water and anti-freeze, anywhere between around 30% to 50% concentration. Pour the contents into the funnel until the level rises up the funnel a bit.

Switch the heater control to the hottest setting.

Bleed the radiator via the vent screw at the top (driver's side)then retighten it. Open the expansion tank (remove the blue plastic lid).

Start the engine and let it come up to normal temperature, running it at a fast idle. Once some liquid appears in the expansion tank, replace the lid (anywhere between a 50mm depth of water in the tank and half-full).

As the engine comes up to temperature you'll notice bubbles come up the funnel. Top up the funnel as necessary. Once the bubbles stop and the water in the funnel looks like overflowing, switch off the engine.

Leave the funnel in place until the engine's cooled a bit. Then remove the funnel and replace the cap in the swirl pot. Job done.

Beware that the water in the funnel will become very hot (approaching boiling point) and that as the bubbles come up some of it may splash. Wash off the anti-freeze that spilt when you removed the funnel with clean water.
