Ok I've just fitted a new set of Gaz Golds to the car and found a hole in the front off-side lower wishbone.

So I'm guessing I need to replace it...

so do these have to be fitted in pairs? and is fitting them in the bounds of a driveway mechanic?

Cheers
Rich

Rich, I would fit them in pairs, if one is bad you can bet the other isn't far behind.
A doddle to fit, whilst you are replacing the bushes you may as well go for poly bushes, Superflex Black work well.

What you need should be here...

For my peace of mind I'd say yes, but it's your money and your neck on the line.

Yes, but you'll have to reset the geometry afterwards.

I'd check the condition of the others before you order some. It's more than possible that a previous owner has replaced odd ones, and also one side can fair worse than the other anyway, just like the outriggers(i found this with mine).
Forgot to add, once you refitted new ones,Waxoyl is your freindwink

I'll do my best biggrin but I'll need to get all the geo professionally set up anyway after putting on the Gaz Golds

The near side showed signs tin rot but after giving it a good poke with screwdriver it stayed together, as opposed to the offside that I put my thumb straight through yikes

Would it be ok just to polyflex the lower wishbone and leave the upper one on the standard bushes?

Just found the same with my wishbones, N/S apart from surface rust seems good, but O/S drill and wire wheel soon found a 1.5 inch hole yikes in the lower and a very small hole in the upper, i am going to bite the bullet and get both sides done uppers and lowers just for piece of mind, the cheapest i have found is £110 lower and £55 upper exc bushes from tvr carparts i have also got to replace shocks all round, think i will go for Gaz Golds then get the geometry re-aligned.

When I fitted new wishbones I decided to run with the original bushes for a while as they come fitted to the wishbone. It seems daft to go to the trouble of cutting them out when they should have a year of good life in them.
It's a relatively simple job swapping the wishbones providing you've got the spanners and a mallet, oh and you may have to file a bit off the steel insert in the new wishbone bush because they never seem to be a standard size, so make sure you've got a decent agressive file around too.

You should put load on the wheel before pinching all the bolts up, you can do this by putting a block of wood under the lower wishbone, where the balljoint connects, and jacking it up gently with a trolley jack until it just lifts off the axle stand.

[general disclaimer so you don't sue my arse off should something happen]
You will have axle stands under there and the wheels chocked and be careful of sharp objects and not leave your thumb where you're about to smack with a mallet - won't you
;-)

Mine didn't may differ depending who you get them off

Power are suppling them without bushes now, which makes it a lot easier if you want to fit poly onessmile
