Would it be possible to transplant the RS6 engine into either an S3 or golf (maybe mk1) engine bay? Or would it need to go in the centre?

If it would have to be centre mounted, which is the smallest car it would fit into? Would a +500bhp lupo be OTT? hehe

Thanks

You'd have to do a mid engine layout. If you used the S4/RS4 V8, it would be a lot shorter and lighter, although it would not have quite the power. If you don't think 344 or 414bhp is enough in a hatchback then I would modify them.

It should fit into later golf/s3 in conceptual terms. The bey is long enough to take a straight 4, so will take a generic V8, and side enough for a 3.2 v6 so should be wide enough for a generic v8. Just depends on dimensions of the RS6 engine. The plumbing for the turbos will be the killer though.

I have my doubts that an RS6 engine would fit in the nose of an S3, you need to remember Audi had to widen the A6 slightly to fit the non turbo V8 in for the S6, and once you add 2 turbos, intercoolers and various bits of pipework, it becomes a rather tight fit in a rather big engine bay on the RS6. Why not try the 2.7 V6 S4 engine? Can be tuned to monster power, less weight and might be a bit easier to fit?

There's a guy on Edition38.com who has put 2 3.2 V6 engines in a Lupo!
