I recently bought a set of OEM 16" 993 wheels without checking the offsets. The rears I bought have an offset of 70 but apparently I need an offset of 55 for my model ('96 C2).

I fitted them anyway as you can see by the pics below and there is no rubbing that I can detect, but I guess I should buy some 15mm spacers to correct the offset before I drive anywhere.

Can you advise what type of spacers I should buy and how easy are they to fit, as I've never done this before.

Early 993s came with 70 offset rears so the wheel you have will work fine on your car. You are right that later cars changed to 55. Buy some 15mm extenders/spacers. You want the ones fitted with a second set of studs rather than the ones requiring you to replace your existing wheel studs with longer ones. To fit first remove wheel then fit extenders using the set of nuts they come with. Finally fit wheels onto the studs projecting from the extenders just as you would normally fit the wheel. When you see them you'll see how simple it is.
