The S5 got bad reviews, said that the RS5 needed to be much better. Currently the diesel version is the best to drive!
I disagree I read the autocar, evo and top gear reports and cannot remember reading one which was negative - the only comment was the heavy fuel consumption which led most of the mags to the conclusion that the derv version would be the best in range for most motorists.I think the new A5 looks stunning however I would have to sell my 6L Monaro and double the proceeds (+£22k = £43k)to buy a S5. For an RS5 I expect I would need to triple the proceeds to make £65k - however I just dont think its worth it.....both would depreciate heavily and wont be as much fun.

The above article was typical in praising the S5's many qualities, but pointing out that it wasn't a "drivers" car.
Quoting from evo edition 106 on the A5 TDI "Also, this car is riding on less aggressive suspension than the S5, so it's more supple & fluid and the nose-heaviness is better masked." "The 3.0 TDI is the pick of the A5's, though".
I haven't driven one, but it seems that it suffers from the typical Audi nose-heaviness & inert steering. Shame, because it looks lovely.

I would, then you'll realise how much more fun the Monaro will almost certainly be.
I test drove various cars when my last HSV was 3 years old & I was thinking about replacing it. None, including the then new 911 S, was as much fun. Obviously the Porsche was superior in so many ways, but it was so good it felt somewhat sterile & a little slow (in a straight line)
Taking money out of the equation, I honestly wouldn't have swapped.

Maybe my HSV was even more fun than your VXR is though
. I honestly wouldn't have swapped on a pure "fun to drive" basis.
The 997 C2S was just too good to really be a great deal of fun, unless you're Tiff or Walter Rohrl, which I'm not. Where as you could can have a hoot in a S/C HSV at relatively sane speeds.
