Is there a big difference between a Chim 500 and a Cerb?
Discussion
Depends on the type of driving as to quite how much but delivery and nature of the engines is hugely different - normal road stuff will likely not show a huge gulf in performance, indeed the torque of a 500 can make them feel more punchy especially from low revs and they seem to launch well - however out and out in full blatt mode the Cerb is a lot faster, once into 3 figures it will show more and more, not many Griffs or Chims can crack 160 but a Cerb will plug away deep on into the 180's.
It's a bit more than that though isn't it?
4 seats instead of two
Fixed roof or softtop
Different V8 sound
Chim is very fast, Cerbera is 'kin fast - 4.5 cerbera properly sorted at 400-420bhp is unbelievably quick.
Then there's the exclusivity - not many Cerbera's around compared to Chimera's/Griff's
Having said all of that - The chimera is still a TVR and hence quicker and more exclusive than most things on the road. Pick the car that suits your need/budget/floats your boat rather than on raw performance

There is the stopping power of the Cerb particularly the 4.5 with better braked. The Cerb has more of a race car feel about it. It also feels better put together. The 4.5 engine is fantastic. However the running costs I found are around twice as much as the Griff 500 due to discs, complexity of electrics and not forgetting the engine! Love them both
As stated its all in how the power is delivered, the RV8 is lazy in comparison to an AJPV8. The Cerb spins in the power akin to a bike engine, lots of revs and an instant thrust (was it not Clarkson who stated a Cerb can outdrag a Tornado jet upto 100 mph), where the Chim/Griff tends to wind up and then find its power. I hoon frequently against a Griff and a Chim (both are well looked after and decent examples) I find the throttle travel on the Cerb is most definatly it's main advantage as I can easily 'out-drag' them both from a standing launch (tbh it's men against boys in a straight line) but in the real twisties the Griff can corner much quicker...if I can get the power in with the Cerb and hold it then that's also a different matter, but It isn't for the faint hearted or a novice.
I love Chims and Griffs and in no way is this post a critiscism, but in all honesty a well set up Cerbera is truely a 'beast'.... just ask the lads who have switched from the RV8's to AJP.

I went the other way. Had a Cerb and now have a Griff (still 500 engine).Cerb was very quick. It fitted me like a glove. Felt very at home and was always rewarded when pushing on. Always shocked at how fast I was actually going and how the engine sounded at very high revs.
The Griff is still fast (so my passengers tell me), seems I'm used to the speed of the Cerb.
Still not feeling totally at ease with the Griff and when pushing on I feel like I'm hurting the engine when getting up towards 5k rpm.
Cerb's love to rev high, Griff's not so.....well all imho.
Still enjoy the burble of the Griff with roof down and of course my wallet is so much happier
