Well I've had my car up for sale on here for three months now (Phantom GTR) and not one call, I'm tempted to do as per the title but am worried due to its nature.
Am I likely to get many hassles due to people not knowing what they are really bidding on or are people willing to bid blind on such an item?
Just needed some feedback really.

I would think people will have a good idea what it is if its on the ebay kit cars section. Plus if you give it a good description then they wont have to hassle you unless they seriously need some specific info. I didn't have any problems when I sold my Quantum. And it sold on there the first time I listed it. Just be careful about who buys it. Do as much checking on their info as possible before letting the car leave your site, plus the obvious things like letting cheques clear before releasing it. I didn't personally have any problems but Ive heard a few storied from people that have.
Go overboard on the description as well as the pictures, detail any wear and tear. Take a deposit at the auction end via paypal, state that you will need a deposit within 24hrs etc, rather than wait for them to turn up with cash.
This weeds out the wasters who bid on stuff then turn up with cash and try to chip you down on the price. Normally if they wont put down a deposit it aint going to happen.

Not overly sure about that business with the deposit being set up. Its just its the sort of thing that may put honest people off as they may be worried that the seller is dis-honest, it can always work both ways. Personally I wouldn't bother with it, as some people wont want to hand over a large sum of money to someone they have never met before and without any real receipt. I would always be worried about the seller doing a runner with my money. But maybe I just worry too much. If its the case that the buyer doesn't show then ebay usually refund the cost of the advert and put a big red mark next to the no-showers profile or something. Or even ban them. But I can see the point of setting on up too.
Putting a car on eBay can give your advert plenty of exposure.
However, I would adopt the following rules.

You are bidding to BUY not to VIEW
If anyone whom you have not had contact with places a bid, then just cancel the bid. That way, you will always have an approved bidder, and if someone sneaks a bid in at the last minute who turns out not to be genuine, then you can go to your next best bidder (and so on) until you reach one who you have previously approved.
I'd set a reserve price too, and make it the realistic figure that you would allow the car to sell for.
However, I would adopt the following rules.

I think you will find if anyone shows an interest on ebay they will come to view before bidding anyway, its the nature of kit cars, you cant see the build quality until your stood beside it, chances are if some one does come to bid the deal will be done there and then.

I have had my Libra on e-bay for 1 week, unsold but just re-listed it. I had a few stupid questions, mostly from friends winding me up (can I swap the engine in it to my XR2 CVH lump ect. ect.) But there was 1,616 hits on it, and it has just had 150 hits in 3 hours. Exposure is thing with e-bay, you get lots of surfers but with that level of hits you must be getting a good few potential buyers looking. There is some good advice given above in the previous posts.
