Having a few Corgi 1:32 diecast Spitfires, I was delighted to hear they are about to release a Mk1A in 1:16 scale.

I was wondering why they were making them to order...

Then I spotted the price...

Arse...

They're also making a Browning .303, Merlin engine and airscrew.

Double arse...

1/16 is BIG (and not even touched on much by the kit manufacturers). Corgi presumeably have decided another Spitfire is the best commercial direction to go.

I've just bought Airfix's new 1/48 Mk 1 and it looks lovely. I aim to build it as a 19 Squadron 1938 two blade version - one of the original Spitfires.

Snap!

The underside is described as 56 Aluminium, do you know if this was paint or NMF on the real thing?

hehe

I've got a 1:24th scale one unbuilt in the cupboard and I can't build it because I would have no where to put it! - 1:16th no way!

gopher - the underside of RAF fighters up to 1938/39 was PAINTED aluminium - not natural metal.

Hurricanes, Gladiators (which had fabric covered, non-metal wings) and even Lysanders were painted in this way.
Shortly after the war began it was decided that the underside of one wing should be painted black - for recognition purpsoes. Shortly after that again it was decided that the undersides should be painted half black, half white.

Bu the Battle of Britain, these weird undersurface schemes were abolished and the underside of fighter aircraft were painted a light blue/green colour called "RAF Sky".

This might sound a silly question - but does this company have anything to do with Corgi diecast models?
