Tyres are a matter of choice IMO. Bridgestone SO2's were fine, but no longer available, being replaced by SO3's which i personally do not like.
I opted for the Toyo's and managed to source the slightly softer compound Toyo, use by TVR, altough I am told that these are also now getting harder to find.
Others will disagree and say go for Eagle F1's and even the 'budget' Falkans (sp?), and if you plan on track days, you can even get road legal 'slicks' for that extra grip, but obviously wear out much quicker than all the others.
Finally, a couple of cans of Foam is all you need to keep in the boot for that puncture problem, but the foam will not be any good for a 'ripped' tyre!

I was thinking of using one of the original rims as a spare and fitting it in like in the Chimeras.
I suppose I just rely on my AA membership to get me home if I do get really stuck somewhere so I haven't done it yet.
Different size front and rear tyres will mean you will legally have to carry 2 sparesI suppose I just rely on my AA membership to get me home if I do get really stuck somewhere so I haven't done it yet.
Tyre foam and an RAC card. Not had to use eiother yet, but I do change my tyres ont he Cerber with a fair bit of tread to go. I'm not risking my car in poor weather for the sake of a couple of hundered quid.
Eagle F1's for me. Love these tyres, although the arrow pattern ones have been replaced with asymetric ones now. very grippy in the wet now.

what is the facination with toyo tyres
I'm pretty sure the T1Rs are standard fit on some TVRs now so that's probably one reason.I think the T1R has got such a name behind it because it was the first budget tyre that gripped REASONABLY well. If you actually compare it directly to a premium sports tyre it really isn't all that but I'd imagine a lot of the people who are driving on them haven't experienced any better yet.

what law is that then?
theres no legal requirement for a spare wheel, never mind two, besides even if you did want a spare, many cars use space saver spares which are quite legal, and have completely different rim and tyre sizes than the wheels they are intended to temporarily substitute for, hence the reduced max advised speed while using them

does anyone know what road legal "semi-slicks" are readily available? I've heard of such things but never come across them - I dont see why I need tread when my car is strictly dry use only, so it'd be nice to get tyres optimised for the dry! someone point me in the right direction! g
