A nice long look back at Foggy`s career with some great archive race footage. Used to love watching him race. Just what you need in a motorcycle racer...talent,determination,crazy eyes peeping out his visor & a total refusal to play 2nd fiddle to anyone. biggrin

Used to adore the guy, even done a presentation on Fogarty on a course I was on in 1999, then I made the mistake of reading his book (not the one by Julian Ryder) decided he had an arrogrance problem. However still respect him as a rider and he held the lap record for years on a OWO1, awesome.

Could he have done it on a 500 full time?

I know he got a 4th at Donny after running out of fuel.

Foggy isd one of my alltime favourites. He does come accross quite arrogant (think that's been done on here before) but no denying his riding....brilliant.

Someone on here is his mate IIRC.

Surely the arrogance was the power behind his determination to try and win everything he entered.

you can argue the toss about his attitude all you like, but he was a magnificent rider - no two ways about it!

Don't think anyone could argue that. I think I'd go as far as saying I preferred watching him to Rossi? I big cvlaim I know.....but I think so...

The guys a legend! I remember the WSB at Donington and crawling uder the fence at the Old Hairpin to get pictures on his celebration lap. Ripped my coat and shirt but didn't care - got the picture signed by him last year and he recognised the circuit/bike/year straight away.

Loved the way at the TT this year he pushed the travelling marshall all the way round on the parade lap. If he overtook him they'd have red-flagged the lap, so he just pushed him until after the Govenors and then nailed it. Top class!!

Funny how many people form opinions about others they have niether know nor met.

Makes me laugh.

All i know is that he was clearly one of the best racers ever to come out of the UK.

True but everyone has opinions to what someone appears to be like, all I know is what i've read and had him say, slagging off Hodgson, Walker and any other talent we had at the time. I admire his riding his aggressive style and he awesome at the TT, which takes balls of steel.

End of the day Jamie Whitam is a top bloke and best mates with Fogarty so he may be sound as a pound outside of interviews.

I used to get up to watch telly early hours for Philip Island and Sugo races just to watch Foggy so was always a fan!

Used to love watching him race. Saw him take the crown at Assen. Was in awe. But, after reading his book [and other things], what an arrogant git! Seems to treat bikers with contempt. Says he can't understand why people ride bikes on the road. Well, sorry Foggy, but not all of us are born within racing circles, and if it wasn't for the likes of 120,000 of us turning up at Brands Hatch to see you race where would you be now?
PS, apologies to author, I am a fan [sort of]

i was one one those 120,000+ who went to brands every year to cheer foggy on, he "was" brilliant on a bike

we met him at the bike show one year and he was a miserable tw@t,didnt have any time at all for his fans ,but then that was during the FP1 embarrisment of his so maybe i should have felt sorry for him hehe

It's a big shame that Foggy never switched series or teams to finally show how good he is, not just the Duc he was sat on. Of course, he showed how damned good he is long before he sat on a Duc, but he should have made that final switch to flick the V's at his doubters.

A superb rider.
A flawed team boss.
A shit awful TV pundit...

"So Carl, a great victory for Hodegson there..."
CF "Yeah it reminds me of the time when I won here back in blah blah ..."
"Er... indeed, and Walker a magnificent ride for 2nd"
CF "He must be gutted, much like the time when I was riding blah blah blah"

Remember when he emptied his RV's sceptic tank by mistake? hehehehe
