Hello,

I am in need of a pair of tyres for my S4 and naturaly have started looking around for a pair of the same (to match the back) but I am having trouble finding a supplier. (Audi will supply them for £150 each but I suspect that I may be able to get them cheaper?!)

I bought the car from a main dealer earlier this year and currently have a set of 4 Firestone Firehawk (235/40/R18 z) SZ80's on there and I suppose my questions are:

1) Are these tyres any good, manufacturers standard fit(?) and does anyone know where I can get them
2) Are there better ones about but would I/should I replace all 4 if I move away from what I have now

Many thanks in advance for any help,

Nickster

Mines got continentals and the last time i had them replaced the guys in Watling Tyres said no problem they'll take 2 days though because the particular code number on them means it is a specific continental tyre developed for the S4 and fitted as OE, this could all be complete bollox of course but is exactly what they told me and they were around £110 per corner

I've swapped my Conti's for a set of Eagle F1 GSD3's - and so far they feel much better! Especially in the wet - which is handy of late! Also, by all accounts they should last a bit longer too!

I agree - another vote for the Eagle F1 GSD3s. I've covered nearly ten thousand miles on them in my S4 and I'm very impressed with their performance in both wet and dry conditions. I'm not sure if you can still get them now though, as I believe they've been superceded.

Eagle F1's are a fair bit cheaper too, about £80 a corner.

Another vote for F1's here. Been running them for six months or so now and find them to be much better than the standard Conti's. Much better feedback and less road noise.

I'd avoid the firehawks again, you can do better.

S4 is quite a heavy car, GSD3s have quite soft sidewalls.

An interesting mix of Audi based tyre reviews on my site http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyres_For/Audi/

Robatr0n,

Where are you getting the price for these tyres from? At £80 a corner the best thing would be to ditch the Firehawks and get a set of 4. The best price I have seen so far is from www.blackcircles.com at £126.34 each.

Thanks all for you help - I agree , I think I can do better than another pair of Firehawks

Another vote for F1's but they don't make them anymore, superceded by assymetricos which are supposed to be quite good.

Michelin PS2's are one of the best but V.pricey, I've plumped for Falken FK452's at present as I couldn't get my preferred choice, Toyo Proxy T1-R;'s locally. Falkens are a good price, great grip if a bit noisy, moreso than F1's.

Pirelli's don't last long, OEM Conti's were suicidal and I would never use again, Bridhestones I had on my S3 and they were similar to Conti's, Dunlops last but not as good on grip.

Interesting comments Collie, I've heard the FK452s are quite quiet, certainly rated as one of the more comfortable tyres on http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Grid/

FYI Goodyear are still making the GSD3 variant of the F1, just in fewer sizes. While there's still demand they'll still make it but they'll be slowly dropping more and more sizes in the future. What sizes they're currently making at the moment... I don't think anyone knows!
