Standard 4.5 rear silencer wanted
Discussion
Ed,
It is possible that Julian at TCS still has mine as he fitted a Silverstone Performance rear box to my car about a month ago. It had one small hole where the nearside pipe entered the box but I'm sure that this could be welded up. It was the original box off of my 2002 car and had done 33,000 miles but seemed quiet to me!

How do you find the Silverstone rear box? I must admit that even though they are expensive they look quite tempting. My 4.2 has a complete 4.5 sports system, manifold to tails, and while its nice, its also too loud for track days (113db @ 4000rpm).It is possible that Julian at TCS still has mine as he fitted a Silverstone Performance rear box to my car about a month ago. Does the Silverstone one sound good?
Simon I have the SP backbox but with normal intermediate pipes and my original straight through decat (rather than SP's linked one) - brings the noise down loads, not quite to 98 (because of the straight through decat I think), but I got a 102 at Brands so backbox alone will see you onto 105 days with no probs - also a whole lot more pleasant on a longer run. Not far from you I think (I'm Maidenhead) so if you would like a listen then let me know (once I work out why it won't start).

Thanks for the offer (thats my configuration too), I might well take you up on that in a few weeks when I'm back at home. Hope you can get the starting problem figured out! TC.

Silverstone exhaust sounds great. Not as quiet as I had thought it might be but I have not had it noise tested. I previously had a sports exhaust with cats fitted and the SP with decat pipes is quieter but with a better exhaust note.
The main advantage for me is the lack of cats reduces temps around the gearbox which should help give the clutch and g'box seals an easier life. You can definitely feel less heat through the transmission tunnel when stuck in heavy traffic so it may help with the soft clutch pedal syndrome (not that i have ever experienced it).
RR Cerbera, was yours the stunning dark blue car I saw at SP the weekend before last? I was in the yellow cerb having my SP exhaust fitted. I must say it looked stunning both inside and out.

Hi, yes that was me up at SP. It was nice to have met you and good to hear they managed to fit your exhaust too. I hope the Cerbera Speed Six guy got his fitted okay! The main advantage for me is the lack of cats reduces temps around the gearbox which should help give the clutch and g'box seals an easier life. To me, with an otherwise standard exhaust system, the car seems much quieter from the outside with the SP rear box. Or it could just be that old age and 6 years of driving Cerberas is turning me deaf.....
