Well - as it's still fresh in everyone's mind..

What wedge events would people want to go to next year ?

Like all these things - it's takes very little effort to organise - just needs people to turn up and be keen on the planned events.

Is everyone bored with Ettington ? is it time for a venue change ?

Should we say have say - 3 events a year..

1. South spring day gathering
North spring day gathering

2. Summer Central weekend event

3. South Autumn day gathering
North Autumn day gathering

What do you think ?

Personally, I like the idea of one big main event in the middle of the summer however I'd be up for 1 or 2 other smaller extra events for die-hard wedgers.
Maybe April, July and September?

That 3 event format sounds good to me, Rev thumbup

Couldn't make BBWF due to my better half's 40th Birthday Party (shhhh!!). Is there anything else planned before the end of this year?

The more the merrier driving I've missed all the "Chicken Running" that we used to do up the Breacons.

We discussed a North Wales blat with Weeman before we came away on Sunday. Perhaps we could do that end of August/Sept

Here's one idea (not that I dislike Ettington, it works well) - how about having the meeting at a track?

For example, Mallory Park is quite central, and it seems to be surrounded by lots of hotels, ranging from budget to 4*, within a 10-mile radius.

If there's some TVR racing on, so much the better. And there's always the possibility of some laps.

We could have the evening do in one of the larger hotels, or a pub within reach of a hotel.

Adam - not that I'm against it ..

But the meeting tends not to be your own and like TVR CC events that have done this - you don't see other TVR owners in this case until the evening..

So many would just turn up in the evening.. or not at all as is often the case.

Another idea that's a bit of a non starter is a wedge track / race day..

Did I mention I won the noisy wedge award whistle wedges are just too noisy for this quiet world. Shame.

Fair points - but I was thinking the main event would be on the Saturday - when there are only practice sessions at the track - then on Sunday we could watch racing or whatever like last year when we went to the drag strip. However you wouldn't be able to have the loudest wedge competition, probably, as it would be too loud for a race track! (Not to mention most of the cars being too loud to drive round it....)

The Lake District could be a possible venue. Plenty of places to hold a wedgefest up there i have no doubt. Great roads easy to get to location with nearby motorway access from all directions. Just an idea. wink

Shit! Big noisy Wedges in Cumbria. We'd have the Friends of the Earth, the Lake District National Park Authority and various other busybody bodies down on us like ten ton of elephant dung. Furthermore if there is any suggestion of people enjoying themselves that doesn't just involve reading or painting the landscape heaven help us.

Soooo bring it on! driving

Why not just try and find another Ettington type hotel for a change of scenery
The formular works well, so why fix it?
Must have:
a) Central location
b) Big hotel
C) Reasonable rates
c) Large car park in own grounds
d) Good pub nearby for evening BBQ

You'll struggle to find anyhere in Cumbria. Most hotels wil be booked solid months in advance. Campsites (which for some reason don't seem to appeal to a lot of you! biggrin) ditto; never used to be a problem till some health & safety zealot degreed "6m between tents, no overcrowding, not enough toilets wah moan whinge" bangheadpunch despite the fact that nobody you talk to can ever remember a problem.
Anywhere that COULD accommodate would likely be in Penrith, Carlisle or Kendal; all of them right out on the fringes of the action - and not the best bits of the county, it has to be said. Then there's the scamera vans - needless to say sited on the only bits of road where you CAN put your foot down.

I know from experience that sports cars and narrow roads with stone walls do not make for exciting driving: rather you find yourself stuck behind car after car after bus after tractor, and every cuunt coming round a bend the other way does so on the wrong side of the road because they can't judge how big their vehicles are rolleyes

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Lakes. It's just about tolerable for a day's driving if you have all the time in the world (OK, so we could break with tradition and have a slow cruise rather than a fast one biggrin) and is definitely acceptable on a bike. But for sports car enthusiasts? I don't think so.

The Dales or Yorkshire Moors areas may be better bets. At least up there, there are no walls to collide with biggrin

If it aint broke, why fix it?

Middle of the year, middle of the country, been great every year so far, why change it?

Not adverse to a couple of other seasonal meets though to the north and south.
