Marco Melandri has been diagnosed with a broken ankle caused by his crash at Laguna Seca.
The Honda Gresini rider had a big shunt ten days ago in qualifying for the United States MotoGP, but after medical checks he was cleared to race.
However, Clinica Mobile's Dr Claudio Costa examined him yesterday at his practice in Imola, and a magnetic resonance angiogram revealed a fractured left astragalus.
The broken bone was not visible in the X-rays performed at the track straight after the accident, nor during further checks performed at Los Angeles in the following days.
It is unknown whether Melandri will be able to take part in the next race at Brno on August 19.
