Hi ive been having problems with my chim feeling sluggish on power and after getting hot ive decided to pull the heads off. Ive had the dizzy setup recently after a new cam, but when I have just taken the heads off and checked the timing it does not seem to match up with the timing mark on the pulley. With no1 piston at the top its almost an inch off the mark. Would this explain my slugish car??

Ive found a few threads that say the timing can slip on the pulley is there anyway to fix this??

Thanks

Neal

The timing on the pulley doesn't slip per se it is however occasionally stamped onto the pulley in the wrong place WRT to the woodruff key in the crank. The only real solution is to mark TDC on the pulley correctly using a centre punch in correct place.

It's also possible for the two parts of the pulley to move relative to each other, so you shouldn't assume that the timing marks are accurate now even if you know they used to be, unless you've proved that they haven't shifted. (If they do shift the pulley needs to be chucked in the bin since the balance will be out, it won't be damping properly and who knows it may even separate at high speed.)

While the heads are off - mark TDC and 28 degreees with tipex or other permanent marked ..

28 degrees is the full advance figure timed at approx 4000 rpm - that;s what most TVR mechanics usually set the timing at.
