Hi guys, I´m a German newbie in this forum and bought a Cerbera around two months ago. To pass the German TUV (MOT) I needed help and decided to let the work do by TVR-Germany. After I got her back two weeks ago I´m pretty disappointed ´cause she´s not running to my satisfaction, she got a major service thoug. The major problem is that she´s got no power under 3000 revs. It´s somehow like a turbocharged engine. When she hits 3000 revs, it´s like someone is kicking your ass. She´s almost not driveable in the city. In the meantime I tried a lot of things, changed and balanced the pots, new lambda sensors, asked the garage and got no helping answer. I think they don´t really know where the problem is, they have just a few customers with cerbs.
If any of you guys has an idea what I can look after to cure her ....... I´d be one of the lucky guys. I fell in love with her and I want the smile in my face.
thank´s a lot
Manfred

Hi Manfred,
Was the car ok before the major service? If it was then maybe when the garage that did the service should have adjusted the tappets, which means taking the camshafts off. If they have not put them back at least in the same position, they could have the camshaft timing wrong.
Unfortunately it is very hard to check as there are no timing marks on any of the gears.
All I can suggest is take it back to them and ask them to recheck the work they have done, good luck.

is it different from before? I think the AJP NEEDS to spin at high revs to work properly, inded this is mentioned in the car manual.

i was going to suggest lambda sensors as they are not used somewhere after 3000 rpm, but you have changed them... i'm not sure it would be the camshafts as they would have to be way out for it to act like that. possible vacuum leak somewhere?

Manfred,

Where exactly did you get the car serviced in Germany? I always took mine (Cerbera 4.2) to a dealer in Hagen near Dortmund. I believe that there are only 2 TVR Dealers in Germany (Dortmund and Munich) so you are limited in your choice.

SSOO,
I took the car to the dealer in Hagen, he´s the closest to Muenster. The garage got her back this morning after I found out that the even bank is completly not working under about 3000 revs. Over 3000 everything seems to be fine, but power starts suddenly with spinning wheels. That´s when the engine runs on all eight. With a lot of frustration I hunted her over windy roads yesterday evening and figured out that one headlamp isn´t working (they are new though) and the power steering is leaking. Man, I paid almost 5500 Euros for the major service and TUV and got a lumpy bastard back. I decided to put her on a flatbed and let the nessessary work do in England, in a recommended garage near Dover. I´m sure they know much more about those beasty cars.
Let you know whats going on.

Manfred, There is a TVR main dealer about 1 hour from Dover. I used them all the time and they are reliable. They may even send out a flat bed to pick up your car from Dover. E-mail me (see my PH profile) if you want the details.

Manfred,

Really sorry to hear about the problems with the car and the huge bill as well. Without wanting to cast dispersions, I too used the same dealer when I lived in Gutersloh. The car had several problems which included replacing several parts including a new slave cylinder(s), alternator, fuel pump etc etc. Suffice to say I must have paid them in the region of 4,000 UK Pounds (approx 6,000 Euros in 2 years). Initially thought I was getting a good service, however, when I moved back to Northern Ireland, and now across to Belgium, I realise what a poor standard of workmanship was given. My last 2 TVR Dealers have been absolutely spot on and always reasonably priced so I have no complaints whatsoever. I can give you a dealer in Belgium; his name is Marc Minne and he lives in Gent near Brugge, which I would guess is about 6 hrs from your location. His Tel No is 0032 (09) 282 3136. He certainly knows his stuff, however, the distance may be a problem.

If you need more information E-Mail me at tony_melaniethorne@yahoo.com

Regards

Tony

Hi, a few days ago I got a call from the garage: "You need a new ECU !" So I went over to them and we tried another EPROM they found in the stock. We plugged it in and the left bank worked properly. They just called me again to tell me that now the right bank is not working. With the first Eprom the right bank works, with the other the left ?????. Now I ordered a new Eprom from TVR-power but I´m not sure it works. Any other ideas, folks?
another sad weekend..
