I've just had a new roof made for my car and had a few more made at the same time to make it worthwhile (convertible development engineer by day). A friend has a Chimaera and wants one, is the roof the same as the Griffith? I have a feeling the hard section is identical but am nor sure about the rear section?

Anybody?

Hi
Its the same size, however the Chim fixing's come through the side, the Griff(on my 96) from the top,so these would need to be sorted pre lining.

edited to add, just had a qiuick sqiz, and the bottom fibre glass section on the griff has two humps on the interior side to the inside of the stays,This dummy fitted the Chim ok but best test one yourself as I wouuld'nt want to give you iffy info

Thanks Paul, the lumps on the tension bow profile are only cosmetic on the Griff so hopefully they'll be no problem

I guess I'll just have to try it and see!

Have you made new roof panels as well, or just the rear section?

Wen I have the rear screen replaced I was considering having it made with a zip around the window, similar to some other cars I have had. I am trying to avoid folding the window section.

If you are a designer in this trade then would it be possible for you do do a rear hood with a flat, solid, heated glass panel? I think that by accepting loss of curvature and therefore a smaller window, plus zipping it so that the glass stands outside the folding struts in their lower position, this might by possible.

How much will the new bits you have made cost?

Hi Fester, I could make such a thing yes. But the backlight bonding would problematic; the testing time for such a thing would far outway the amount of people wanting such a product, and I wouldn't release anything that I wasn't satified with long term.

Also the backlight would be tiny (to enable folding); half the current height and 2/3 the width. It'd look silly.

Ballistic Banana (Griffith pages) has just posted a link on another thread to an overview of his experience of my roof.

Thats not asking much..biggrin

How about designing a rear mounted hinged boot with electronic one touch remote stow hood.

So...

Does it fit the Chimaera then?

How much are you asking for the extra ones you had made...?

Also..

I was thinking about doing away with the rear window altogether..it's not like I ever actually look through it ~ it's never up...do-able...?

Is there a better way of constructing the pieces at the side where the velcro attaches to the body...mine seem to look a mess however I fold them in...?

Yes - we have fitted Chimaera hoods to Griffiths and vice versa.

NO just an enthusiast - the main hoods (shape and size, etc) are definitely the same although there may be very minor variations over the years e.g. velcro flaps, etc.

It would be good to have a zip-out rear window.

Yup...

As I said above...I wondered about just replacing the window section with the hood material.

I definitely want something better at the sides...

But I want to know how much the 'spares' are up for - because my hood is a bit tired.

Bought a Chimera centre section for my 95 Griff
Fits no problem.
Bought from Douglas Valley s/hand so I can ram into boot with no worry of damage as I would with original tatty but who cares in the rain to get home
