A friend has just lost his 944 Turbo SE Convertible due to flood damage (was submerged up to the roof lining hence RIP)

This is a very rare car, less than 100 were sold in the UK.

Can anyone help advise how to get a valuation so he can argue the case of how much its worth with the insurance co'. Would a the Porsche owners club or Porsche GB help with a valuation.

Or could one of the specialist dealers on here help him out with a letter?

note - he is now looking for a replacement the same.

Depends entirely on the car. The general opinion is that people seem to think they`re worth 15k (and have done for the past 10 years!). In reality the cheapest one we've sold was around 7 or 8k and it goes up from there depending on the car.

Henry's right. A very, very good example might be as high as 15k, but I reckon most are worth 10k.

There are 2 in the classified that haven't sold at around the £11k mark. However, the most expensive one has sold.

When I let mine go, I'll be hoping to get £11k for it.

suggest you take the values from the adverts here and from Auto trader as the best proof of current value! and go from there

Obviously a bit late now, but you should always insure rare classics on an agreed value basis, particularly if they're in above average condition. Market value will generally be much lower. Good luck with the claim!

When it comes to classics, within reason its what its worth to you I think. Therefore they usually agree the value when you take out the policy. After all, you are paying the premium. However rare it is, though, there isn't that much of a market in old 944's.

Yes, with an agreed value policy the value of the car is fixed when you take out the premium. But you have to prove that the car is worth the proposed value before the insurer will agree to it. Usually requires an independent valuation and a few photos. In other words you can't insure your old banger for twice what its really worth, set fire to it and claim the cash.

In this case, as there was not an agreed value in place, the settlement will be based on average market value determined by the insurer.
