Hi all, I have an Impreza which is knocking on the door of 400bhp, it will be used on track so I need an oil cooler.
any recommendations what size? how many rows? i was thinking 230mm core with 16-19 rows.
also what bits will i need to put ths kit together?
pipework
the core itself obviously
an extension bolt
sandwich plate
If I want it to work thermostatically do I just need the thermostatic sandwich plate instead or would i need an oil stat etc,
exact parts lists would be handy since I am a bit of a useless techie
any ideas on where to mount the core too? I was thinking remove a foglight and put it down there but somebody else suggestred to put it up top where the intercooler used to be but i think i will get heat soak up there.
thanks in advance

Most people who sell the oil coolers will sell you a kit including everything you need. The only thing specific to your vehicle will be figuring out where to put the cooler, deciding how long the hoses need to be and making sure you know what type of fitting the oil filter uses so you can get a sandwich plate to match. Oh, and check that there is physically enough space below the filter to add the sandwich plate and still get the filter on and off. You need to have an oil stat and you can get a sandwich plate with an integral one, that's fine.
before you fit an oil cooler the size of a barn door and run your oil too cool....what sort of current sump oil temperatures are you running?......as a guide dont be afraid to run well into 100DegC........140 DegC is the limit for mineral based oils, and 150DegC for synthetic oils.......all manufacturers sign off at these temperatures - believe it or not.....but yes, I agree with 400bhp, oil temp will probably need addressing......all I'm trying to say is dont fall into the bigger is better trap.
