Brighton Speed Trials
Discussion
The Frosts National Speed Trials in Brighton is to be held on Saturday 8th September. This is the world's oldest (still running) motor race and is a 1/4 mile sprint event.
Entry list is available here: http://www.brightonandhovemotorclub.co.uk/aboutus....
It's free to watch from the top road, or for £10 you can wander the pits and get very close to the cars as they perform 'tyre warming' in the staging area.
I will be competing (Car 46) along with some other PHers.
All welcome.

Id be tempted to enter my Sagaris into this...
Any idea how much it is to enter?
Is it just for fun or is there actually a leader board type things with prizes? (cuddly toys?)
How many runs to you get?
The only thing that would put me off is the strain and stresses that ill be putting the car under...

Too late for this year Lee. Entries have to be in a couple of month's before hand and you have to joing the Brighton & Hove Motor Club to enter iirc http://www.brightonandhovemotorclub.co.uk/aboutus....
I did the event many years back, so a little rusty, but from memory you get a practise run and 2 proper runs. All properly timed and with a leaderboard. You'd probably be put in the novice class which runs a handicap system. Im not sure what cuddly toys are on offer but at least the class winner gets a trophy
I wouldnt worry about strains and stresses on your car, I would say that sprinting would be the most mechanically sympathetic form of motorsport. No worse than 3 'traffic lights' starts.
Its a great event to be part of. Some fantastic machinery to be seen/heard and most competitors seem friendly.
Do it

Yeah, no worries, I'll let the cafe know as soon as you confirm numbers etc. I hope to join you but Im away with the Surrey lot in France the weekend before and not sure yet if SWMBO will let me out to play two weekends on the trot

Definately worth the effort to get down, seeing some of these cars and bikes running silly times (even dipping into the 8sec 1/4's) on what is essentially a 30mph road is very impressive indeed.
Starts at about 10am and finishes (dependant on the day going to plan) about 5:30 ish. All on Madeira drive (road along sea front next to the pier) so you can't miss it. Its free to watch from the very top road or £10 to watch from the middle tier and also allows you to walk round the pits so its well worth paying the dosh.
Word of warning though, the traffic wardens
are out in force on that day placing tickets on any cars that are parked in the wrong places and also the local BIB
normally have the speed gun out on the A27 just by the Brighton gates catching people on the way home so please bear both of these in mind.
Does get very busy indeed (weather dependant) so best get down before the start and make a day of it.
