...........And wanted a new toy what would you buy. I am an ex Lotus Exige owner but had a silly moment and bought a boxster. Now i am looking to sell it and possibly buy a TVR. I know servicing, insurance and warrenty will cost me between 3&5K a year. but Are they really as bad as people say? T350, cerberra or Tuscan?
It will be used for dry days and the odd shopping trip should my good ladys car be in use else where. 1 point i would like to add is that i know nothing about engines so any work would need to be done by TVR. I miss the sound of my exige and the driving experience. Will a TVR p1ss me off ?

Your thoughts.

OK, I think you're going to get a lot of opinions on this - every TVR owner thinks that theirs the best of allbiggrin - with the sort of cash you're talking about you can get a really good example of a Griffith 500. I'm obviously biased as I own one, however I can honeslty say that I've had no really mechanical or electrical problems and she's an absolute joy to own and runcool

where abouts in Essex are you? if you're anywhere near romford you can come and have a look round our cerb and go for a drive if you're not sure.

or the mid essex TVR club meet every first sunday at chemlsford, always a helpful bunch and always lots of all makes of TVR are there.

Honestly? Then probably, yes.

There is no getting away that Porsche build very well put together cars ... TVRs are great fun, but build quality is not their strength.

Put it this way ... I sold an absolute peach of a 911 3.2 Carrera in January to get my second Griffith 500. Even though it was a good car by TVR standards, I regretted quickly and deeply selling the 911. I sold the Griff last month.

If you have £20k to spend and want a stonking handling, involving, perfect steering feedback, iconic sportscar ... go and buy a well sorted 911 (I'd go for a good 964 around £15k).

Just my thoughts smile

something like this

I'd say meet up with a few owners and go for a spin with them and try Cerb, T350 and Tuscan out. I've had 911's, RX-7s and various others motors but i'n my view nothing comes close bang-for-buck or smiles-per-miles than a TVR. I know AREBREC has already offered but i'm in Woodford GReen if you want a spin in another Cerb.

yes For me it would have to be a 400SE with a properly built 5 litre lump,(from J.E, V8 Dev, RPI or one of the good builders) restored chassis/interior etc. cloud9

Cerb.

Or if u must have that al fresco feel then a 4.3BV (rare)/late Griff.

Or for the marginally less sportier/sofer ride then a Chim 500.

All are subject to condition/history more important than age.

I built a Cerbera with a 500bhp 6.3 LSx motor for a bit less than that, been thinking what else i could have instead but nothing springs to mind, I like 911T's but they are twice the money for the same age.

Why not come to the Griff Growl (all details on the Griffith forum) and get a good viewing of around 150 Griffs plus meet the owners, traders etc. Oh yes..there will hopefully be around 50 'others' there as well. Its over the weekend of 17th-19th August with the 18th being the main day.

Its free to get in too....

I'm glad you've raised this topic as i too may well be in the position in the near future to finally get my hands on my first TVR biggrin but really can't decide on which model i want. Not really into convertables BUT a Tamora is floating my boat at the minute and the Griff's look to be very good value. What i've hankerd over for years though is a Cerbera and i'm trying to choose between 4 models. This will be a one off purchase so, in no particular order...

  • Cerbera
  • Sagaris
  • Tamora
  • Griff
