As a ball park figure how much should a full rebuild of a 4.5 AJP8 cost? (as a drive in drive out)

A lot of variables here but I would say somewhere in the region of £4-6k would cover most rebuilds.

I've had a quote of £3k incl vat, labour & parts for my 4.2.

That said, it's all ready had a few things done when the head gaskets got swapped, oil pump rebuild etc..

Depends on what you are having done at the same time

If you are looking at fully balanced, and new components like piston's and head work, the late £6+'s including vodka.
