Seen out exercising at the Porsche only MSV track day at Oulton Park yesterday (1 Aug 07) not one but 2 Carrera GTs, Sometimes lapping in convoy. Awesome. Good to see them out, rather than being polished.

One brake disk is probably worth the same as my entire 944T. Ho hum. Wish I'd blagged a ride now.

They were quick, both driven by race drivers.

Other than them the two white/red 996GT3RS' seemed the quickest out there.

The black RS was going well.

As was my CSL laugh

Your CSL was going well mate and sounds amazing, I enjoyed watching you match the GT3RS over a few laps. I have been circling around buying one for a while.

I was there yesterday providing mobile chicane services in my boxster S smile and another friend had the blue 996 C2.

The Carrera GT's were awesome but someone needs to fit a fuel gauge to their mates black race car smile that thing was a beast and almost as impressive as the truck it arrived in

Thanks dark_helmet, I remember your car smile

Yes quite annoying to see a car with a entourage of 8 people looking after it run out of fuel after a few laps. Worse still was they had forgotten to put the towing eye in it so it couldn't be towed and petrol had to be taken to it. Meanwhile the rest of us lost 30 mins track time frown

Great day, well behaved Porsche owners and some great driving, the best trackday I have been on.

All,
It was my first day out in my 964RS and my first time at Oulton, I was worried after being at the RS day in March that the driving would be aggressive - not good when you don't know your car or the circuit.

As it was I was spared the flashing headlights and tailgating I was expecting despite being very slow in the morning - I managed to pick up a little in the afternoon despite my seven year old rubber starting to disintegrate (car has been in store in Germany with PO due to illness).

Roll on the next one when I hope to give a better account of myself, thanks to Jamie for the passenger laps - I can feel a MOTEC conversion coming on.....
Cheers,
Kevin.

There was recently a Carrera GT at the PCGB Croft day, very stunning and fast looking, but I thought the sound a little disappointing.

However, it is truely fantastic to see these cars on the track. Not sure I would be so brave, but maybe I would feel different if I could afford to spend £300K on a car!

Now the Lambo Gallado on the other hand made a fantastic noise spitting flames down to the first bend bow

I hope they fined him for that?

Bookatrack have a policy that if anyone runs out of petrol on track they debit the persons account with £50 which they donate to the Marshalls benevolent fund.

No excuse for not checking your fuel and making people lose expensive track time

Agree with the comments regarding the race car that turned up late, to run out of fuel is a bit of a joke. Apart from that it was a great day.

Anybody spot 911 and Porsche World out there testing and photographing a Cayman S fitted with slicks and LSD?
Apparantly it was doing a few laps driven by Mark Hales and kept the CGTs at bay for quite a few laps!!

It was a pleasure to be overtaken by the two CGTs in convoy.

Wait until you own a car with no fuel gauge or a multi-modal dash that doesn't alert when it's low...

Pity then that one of them ended up in the gravel trap & caused a red flag in the morning & also drove dangerously in the afternoon - barging up the inside at the chicane & at another corner - he nearly T-boned me on 2 ocassions as I was just about to turn in. Obviously wasn't listening to the brief about overtaking with consent on the straights only. The car might have been fast but the driver was a dangerous prat - the only one that was.

What sort of excuse is that?

Why should everyone else have to waste some of their day just because one person cant be bothered to check their fuel?

One CGt is owned by the owner of the black racer also.
People make mistakes running out of fuel, easy in a racer with a million other things to check or test, and forget the simple things like fuel, possibly the reseve button had been switched on also,so no reserve left.

What a funny comment mark hales in front of a cgt for a few laps, slicks etc its easy to do with the poor standard cgt tires, and a fairly quick car slick shod.
Its easy to make such comments with out any understanding!

Thought I recognised one of the drivers in the silver Cayman!, didn't realise it was Hales. Look forward to seeing what he thinks in the article.

Another internet myth is started......
Even with their crappy checkbook racer drivers the CGTs were lapping in 1 min 50, ~6s slower than 997 cup cars.

The Cayman actually spent little time on slicks, it was on standard road tyres most of the day, the slick running was cut short due to a tyre letting go.

The GT's sounded superb, thanks to all that were there, the driving was excellent.
