ECU DIAGNOSTICS
Discussion
Hi guys, need a little help starting up the ECU diagnostics programme. I have downloaded it, unzipped and installed it on an IBM 600 series laptop. When i bought the car (private deal), I was given a CD with the diagnostics programme and a USB to 9 pin serial cable. I connect the cable to the laptop and MBE ECU, start the laptop up, start the car and start the ECU diagnostics programme. nothing!, the programme just says the ECU is not connected. How do I get this to work? am I missing something. On another matter, If I were to disconnect the battery, would I have to syncronise the key fobs with immobiliser/alarm ? if so how? Any advice would be gratefully received.

to be honest the USB to serial leads seem to cause all kinds of problems, windows needs to be setup to point the USB to the COM port in the operating system setup. If you do a search for USB there are quite a few threads on this. Does you laptop have a serial port? If so you are probably best getting a standard 9pin to 9pin serial cable (£3). Another option is a PCMCIA to serial card (£15).
