Anyone Off To Castle Combe On Saturday?
Discussion
I'll be there, fixing F Fords.
Good luck Jon, I counted four 360s out testing yesterday and one 430 which isn't down on the entry, but raced in the britcar race the meeting before.
Marc Haynes was very fast and managed a 1:23.8 in the rain, although tomorrow will be very hot.

Did anyone hear what happened to the poor bloke in the MG race (sorry, but didn't see the number on his car, so cannot put a name to him) who pulled over at Quarry and had to be taken to hospital? The paramedics and doctors were working on him for quite a while - he didn't crash, he just pulled on to the infield? Looked serious!

Judging by the marshalls body language afterwards i'd say it's not good. The only thing i can think of is maybe a heart attack? With classical racing all the drivers seem to be a bit older and i've read numerous stories in Autosport about drivers suffering heart attacks whilst racing.........I hope i'm wrong though.Jon
must admit, they were my thoughts, too - frantic activity and a drip held by one of the docs. Here's hoping that he's ok..... keep checking this site http://www.racecar.net/castlecombeforum/
(on a lighter note, I was 1/2 looking out for you in your Pistonheads T-shirt to say hello, but couldn't spot you...Oh well. ) Cheers, Jon

I was in car 86 (White M3) in the saloons. Recovered to 6th overall and third in class after being bundled off the track by a mad Leon!
The drifting Jaguar of Rob Newall was brilliant to watch, as were the sideways Lotus Cortinas. Great fun.
I was down at Combe running our cars in the saloon car series ..... including the Leon The drifting Jaguar of Rob Newall was brilliant to watch, as were the sideways Lotus Cortinas. Great fun.

2nd in class A with the Evo, 2nd in class B with the Leon, and 1st in class D with the Corsa.
Hope the damage to the Beemer isn't too bad.The M3s are the best sounding cars on the grid
Did you attend the technical meeting? Any views on what was discussed? Personally think the suggested move to list B tyres would be very expensive, and not improve the racing even if all the lap records would go on the first meeting. Good idea to up the cc limt to 3.2 or 3.5. Be nice to see a pucka E46 M3, and R32 golf out there ..... I'd do a black M3 CSL if the category went to 3.2 and a lottery win rolled in.
Tech meeting made some progress. Hopefully 3.5 litre for n/a cars. List 1B tyres not much more money than top end 1A. RE070 cost £450 a set and 048R about £600...
Agree, M3 is the best sounding car
The induction scream is neck hair erecting!
Mind you, the Longman engined pugs and Wyatts near BTCC spec Astra are snorty...

It's certainly a good powerful car, but nowhere near BTCC cost to run. It's a strong engine that has run since the car was built with very little maintenance. There certainly aren't the reliability issues that the Cox's had with their Longman engines, or the scheduled rebuilds a BTCC motor would have - No restrictors too so it can really sing!As someone looking to get out of the pit lane, and onto the track, I don't see that going for list B is as simple as comparing RE070 to 048Rs, set for set. Our RE070's have been lasting for several events (Astra had a new buffed set last race, and that's the first this year), and tyres like A048s and Dunlop equivilents wear very quickly, and are not designed for maintaining performance through many heat cycles ..... Class wins could start to go to the guys who can afford (and are willing) to chuck a new set on for each round (people do it in the hot hatch and john cooper challenge for example) - £000's a year on rubber alone to win your class?
I disagree with that. One problem with IA tyres is they don't handle the heat and the tread moves about too much as a result, making a vicious circle (certainly on a heavy car like the M3).
A cup or 048R tyre will handle the heat and be much more resistent to erosion as a result. The wear should actually be better from a stickier tyre, paradoxically.
