Another newbie asking the same old question, the oil pressure on the gauge indicates just below 30 on tickover when the engine is warmed up and 50-60 when going along, the oil pressure light keeps flickering very dim, I had it looked at and the connector isnt very good so I will replace, I am now wandering if the gauge is faulty as it seems high to what I have read on the forum, any advice would be welcome

Are you sure the glowing LED is not the ignition light? There seems to have been a lot of confusion between the 2 in the past....

You can check the ign light by:
Switch ign on & you should have both red & yellow/orange LEDS lit up on the dash.
Pull the spade connector off the back of the alternator, the light that goes out is the ignition / charge light. Hence the other is the oil light.

The oil switches are std Rover parts, and it is quite common that they need replacing (@£5 and 10 minutes to swap).

I have had a look in the handbook and the light that is glowing slightly is the oil light, I will get a new one put on at service, does the pressure seem high or normal.

sadly you cannot assume the handbook is right, as it varies car by car
