Well, the day has come.

I got pulled over 4 months ago for doing 135mph on the A14 and have had this hanging over me.

My suit is cleaned and pressed, I have spoken to the Road Solicitors and am representing myself.

I am hoping for a maximum 2-3 month ban and around 400 - 500 pound fine. I am very concerned as a friend said that he spoke to the Chief Justice last night at a cocktail party and he said that he would ban me for 12 months and preferably jail me. Can that conversation prejudice my sentencing?

There is no dangerous driving charge so that is not an option, but it does not bode well.

Apparently it is the fastest recorded speed on that road - no matter as I freely admit it was a dumb thing to do in a moment of weakness and poor judgement.

Wish me luck - I'll post up the results tomorrow afternoon.

Regards,

Q

Your friend is taking the piss, and even if it was true you'd never prove it

Good luck with things. I may well be wrong (and I hope someone will correct me if I am) but I don’t think you can get locked up when charged with speeding. I think you need to be charged with WDC&A/DD to risk being locked up.

Eh? Where in this world does a Chief Justice hear speeding cases.

Jeez, prison's gotten pretty soft these days if they have a WiFi connection in the custody suite!

Seriously, bon chance, hope it's not a handcuffs job!

135mph on the A14?
What stretch/time of day?

I am being charged with dangerous driving even though I am innocent and there isn't enough evidence to convict me, my lawyer is talking about "at least" a year ban and I'd have to retake my driving test after that year!

I am gutted! Almost a year since the happening and it has been postponed till November, its hanging over me and my work!

Its good to see someone genuinely making an effort....90 in a 70 is a mere lazy attempt imo.

All the best mate.

Well,

the result is out!

I was smarlty dressed, waited patiently and was composed, elegant humble and all the other stuff.

Sadly it was not enough and I was handed a 6 month ban and £460 fine (45 costs / 15 victim surcharge).

Thanks for everyone's good wishes - I enjoyed the remark about not trying hard enough!!

It was actually 130.13 according to the police car, just north of Sproughton on the way into Ipswich. I was late for a meeting with a girl and had also just got the car and wanted to see what it can do. It tops out at 136 ;-)

I did drive, but a friend was with me as I knew the outcome. My bike is working (push bike!!) and I will doubtless put some miles on it!

5 months and 30 days to go......

Sounds harsh considering other offences and what justice deals out but hey ho... Was it on a busy stretch? was it on one of the dodgy stretches of the A14?

Does sound a little harsh considering the offence has no victim (except for the at least seven people you must have killed by driving that fast of course). A shoplifter gets less than that.

Bad luck.

Don't think of it as a 6 month ban for doing 130, think of it as a 6 month ban for doing 130 whilst not concentrating sufficiently to spot the police car!

Seems like a more reasonable punishment when you look at it that way! cool
