would this silly idea work - ECU
Discussion
I remember thinking once, that with the MBE ECU, the lambda sensors are used to set the adaptive maps, by varying their output voltage between 1-1.7v depending on O2 content of the exhaust gas.
Could you replace the two lambda sensors by a couple of appropriately configured potentiometers to allow you to 'set' the fuel trim for each bank?
I imagine as long as the signal from the lambda sensors is within an acceptable range, the MBE ECU won't freak out that its fixed rather than moving.
Of course, there may be no point to this, as a fixed voltage will result in a fixed adaptive map, but I wonder what effect it could have?
Perhaps I just like the idea of twiddling knobs.

Would this basically be the same as a fuel-mixture screw?
Sounds like it could work.
Thats kinda what I thought, just an 'electric' version. It would basically make the adaptive map richer or leaner across the range. Probably not much use, I should really get on with some work Sounds like it could work.

Surely the same effect could be had simply by upping or lowering the fuel pressure
Probably, although from my sketchy understanding of how the MBE works, the adaptive map and lambda sensors are only operational at sub-4000rpm speeds on the lower load sites. Hard acceleration or more than 4000rpm reverts to the base map and the lambda trimming is turned off.Increase or decrease in fuel pressure would affect fueling in every situation (base and adaptive maps), my idea was just to tweak it under cruise conditions - hence providing a fixed signal down the lamdda sensor wires into the ECU.
