That would have been done on the standard CGT tyres, which are hard and have quite a bit of negative space (wear rating of 220, IIRC, whereas the wear rating on the Corsa is 60 or 80).All these GT3 times (amongst others) are done on Cups or Corsas or similar. If such were available in CGT size, I'd guess it would mean at least a 10 sec improvement on 7:32 (AFAIK, no one has ever publicly confirmed "7:28", so for now it remains an urban myth).
If someone is gunning for the fastest possible time in the 97GT3, they too will be using a track-day tyre, and its time will not be comparable to CGT's.

The only thing with Herr Rohls times is they tend to be in alignment with Porsches marketing machine ie 997s are faster than 996 and RS is faster than GT3 etc, so I wonder how influenced by marketing they are.
By comparison the independent Sport Auto Supertests often come up with different results such as GT3 and RS versions of 997 at the same laptime and the 996RS 1 sec faster than both.........

Unless all the cars are tested simultaneously, the laps times are fairly meaningless. The track changes from hour to hour, never mind day to day. And of course some of those tests would be separated by years. The changes due to repaving work alone are quite significant.By comparison the independent Sport Auto Supertests often come up with different results such as GT3 and RS versions of 997 at the same laptime and the 996RS 1 sec faster than both.........
I would guess that Porsche try to find the ideal time to test, yesterday for example. An automoblie magazine might not have the luxury of waiting for that ideal day, hence the disparities.
I wonder just how much Herr Rohrl has slowed down over the years.

This statement is what makes most sense to me. Especially on such a long track, you really need to have many groups in many different circumstances, and average everything out, from many different tries, and still this doesn't sound accurate enough to me..When the difference is only a few seconds between 2 cars on an 8 minute track, can't tell what the car really does unless 2 drivers do their best on either cars on the same day and then switch cars and average out.
