I took these pics yesterday when a pco pulled up on the double yellows, strolled back and slapped a ticket on another car. I'm no angel and occasionaly park on yellows, but this seems very hypocritical to me! Are they allowed to do this?

I don't think they are allowed to do that, it would be very tempting if i were say, on a bicycle, to ride into his parked car and collapse in a heap. I am sure he would be fired. One down smile

BTW, is that the view from your house? I have promised myself a view just like that one day..

Think about it Deeps.

So what you are saying is that a Fire Engine, Ambulance etc could not stop to do the business and would have to park miles away???????

You will find that in the Traffic Regulation Order for the Waiting Restriction there will be an exemption clause simuilar to this:-

where the vehicle is used for police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes or any vehicle in the service of the local authority in either case being used in pursuance of statutory power or duties and

no person shall, except upon the direction or with the permission of a Police Officer in uniform or Traffic Warden, cause or permit any vehicle to wait at any on the length(s) of road(s) specified in Schedule 50 of this Order. (Sgt told me it was Ok to do 'em and stop if necessary).

Enforcing the law I would say was a Police purpose.

Why didn't he ticket the silver car with it's door open, that was obstructing the side turning, rather than the car parked in a safe place?

yes you are 100% correct, however parking "offences" are no longer against the law (criminal law anyway) are they? thought they were all civil offences? certainly "double yellow" ones are. therefore he is enforcing civil law which the BiB tend not to get involved in ??

How can it be classed as pure civil law when it requires Statutes Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to make the TRO, Traffic Signs and General Directions 2002 to sign.

Ah got it.... then those on here which say that if the restriction isn't signed properly then it is still an offence cos its not crim law which requires it to be so....

Scratches head, departs muttering...

I took a similar pic a while back of two wardens on mopeds in Nottingham. Funniest part was they started taking photos of me!

On a related note...it annoys the hell out of me in Nottingham that the wardens ride around on mopeds using L plates.

No, obviously I'm not saying that DVD, emergencies are of course acceptable use of parking anywhere.

But here we have a law enforcer casually breaking the very law he's enforcing, so seems rather hypocritical to me anyway. If we assume the lines are there for a reason, is issuing a parking ticket more important than obeying the reason the lines are there? If you're going to do a job like that you should be squeaky clean IMO, park in a legal space and then go hunting on foot.

The bastid's booked him for parking on the line by the looks of it as the car appears to be within the bay. It's shits like that who are eroding the respect Joe Average has for law enforcement in this country.

Send 'em to The Sun or the Daily Wail yes

and assuming the photos are posted in chronological sequence wtf did he not park in the marked bay itself as opposed to the DYLs. Being cynical was it because he can?

Cue somebody coming on and saying its all about keeping the roads free and traffic flowing and leaving the space allowed someone else to park, eg the Cavalier red Vectra which arrives and parks. That black Cavalier buggered off quick did he not?

What was he ticketing a big Merc van/MPV, Viano or similar? How close was it to kerb?

they probably just get the CBT paid for meaning they must display L-plates to ride on the road. same as pizza boys etc

I stopped behind an unoccupied British Transport police car outside Crewe station to pick my daughter up. Unfortunately her train was waiting just outside the station and the Officers came back to the car while I was there and one of them told me I was causing an obstruction and to move.
He didn’t take kindly to my enquiry about why it was OK for them to cause an obstruction. ‘Just move sunshine’ (I’m a 40 something company director) he said, and kindly stepped into the road so I could be on my way (to the roundabout to go back to where I was before he moved me so I could collect daughter).
