Hi all,
How much oil *should* a 964 get through? Mine seems to glug around 1 litre every 1000 miles, sometimes a bit more, sometimes less. Has done so over the last 4 years since I've had it.
Seems a bit much to me, and I've asked the question before a few times but my friendly servicing chappy says not to worry. The car is decatted and has done 85k miles. Very occasionally get a bit of blue smoke, but just a faint puff - have only ever noticed a handful of times.
Any 964 owners with similar? Just wondering if i need to start saving for that top-end jobby...

I owned a 964 a few years ago, I don't recall it going through oil that quickly. I am told my GT2 uses around that amount of oil, ie 1 litre per 1000 miles and that is easier to track as it tells me when it needs a top up. Mind you, they tend to drip a bit of oil too the 964s. How many miles has yours done?

That's pretty much as per book, but it depends onhow you use it, mine uses about a litre every 2-3k...107k on the clock

Thanks for the info guysKevin
Warmfuzzies... that means mine uses around 2-3 times as much as yours
I use mine every day but lots of short journeys (less than 3 or 4 miles). Obviously I don't drive it hard when the engine's cold although of course its gets a damn good blatting when its nice and hot...
Short journeys are never good for any car, 10 miles or so is my personal recomendation, enough to burn off any water vapour around.
IIRC porsche say that upto 1 litre/1000k is acceptable, meaning yours is still ok, I take mine to Le Mans every year, and that really makes a difference to how she behaves for the following months, a good blast every now and again to lubricate the seals, clear any moisture and blow away the cobwebs....good for the soul too.
