Recycle you old P38.....
Discussion
So, I've been trying to look into the arab car above, but can't find any info.
What i did find was the xoticreplicas site in Ireland, which seels a fibreglass panel kit for the P38 that is largely bonded onto the original bodywork, so you end up with something like this.....

http://www.xoticreplicas.com/index.aspx?page=produ...
Now,i am not generally keen on trying to make the P38 look like something it isn't, but I'm loathed to sell my well maintained example on which i've spent a fortune for the pittance that it seems to be worth, and I fancy a project.
So, the panels from xoticreplicas cost Euros3500, bits and pieces like lights etc can no doubt be found on ebay, labour will need to be factored in, but, and this is the real question .....
how easy do you think it would be to chop the roof and stick in a roll cage like the arab picture above?? and what would you do for a roof !
I really fancy a thoroughly impractical 4x4 for the english weather
(and a bird of prey to go with it
)

i dont think this kind of thing is a good idea, a P38 is a P38, not a bad car but trying to dress it up as something it isnt is akin to the MR2 Ferarri 355s, if you want an L322/RR Sport the best thing is just to buy one or if you dont want that kind of outlay just stick with a P38 and be happy with it, their great cars when they work

I agree entirely, and I intend to get a L322 in any event to replace the P38. Its just the P38 is now worth so little it seemed better to use it for a project (knowing as I do that it is in tip top condition) rather than flog it and lose all my "investment" ploughed in over the years lol. Mine is not just "a not bad car", its a great car.
.And I don't necessarily see my proposal as trying to pass off a P38 as a RRS - after all, there isn't a RRS softtop and only those knee deep in oil are going to go round hacking the roof off a real RRS for fun. Whatever I end up with is still going to have a 4.6 litre Rover V8, the throaty sports exhaust and the proper OEM mechanicals and air suspension. I don't really see it as comparable to the MR2 / Ferrari analogy you make.
Rather I see a project like this as akin to making a bobtail or a pickup or an Ibis - all proper Land Rover stuff, no? Or the fairly common practice of modernising a series one for trialling, or sticking a defender front end on a series model?
Like I said, the aim is to end up with a fun / unique toy in the style of an arab falconing car (the car in the top picture, not the xoticreplica one). I accept that the finish will depend entirely on the effort that is put into the project..... I'm just curious to know about the roof chopping aspect. I believe that the P38 still ahd a separate chassis so I assume there will still be some inherent strength in that once the roof comes off?

i wasnt having a go about doing something different and i didnt mean it to come across that way, just i personally dont like it when people try to dress up a P38 as a real L322/RR Sport.
