Fook moi! Met Chris at a trackday a few weeks back, nice chap, knows his motors and can drive a bit - demonstrated by his massively entertaining sideway's attitude in the Alpina B3 Touring he runs around in. He's getting paid too much if this is true. Also has epic sideburns.

Prolly a good and a bad thing.

If a journo sticks his hard earned into a very expensive car that by his own admission is stretching it, then fingers crossed its a very good car.

If anything goes wrong with his - he will cane it, which is bad.

Either way I liked his idea of test driving the egear version to see what its like (even though I dont really want it) - its rude not to

Is it his own money? I thought Evo mag recently got to spec up a DB7 GT on Aston,to run as a long term car...Maybe Autocar have got the same deal with Audi?
It seems more likely VAG would be able to help, surely this was never even a posiibility in Previous Lamborghini days.

When I was at the 40th I went over to the table where the guy who I placed my order with was sitting. Chris Harris was sat next to him. I thought this was a bit strange as usually journos do their own thing at do's like this and flock together.

He was behaving just like a customer amongst a table of other customers. I think that if Autocar were to run a Gallardo they would be approching the whole story from a diffrent angle. I actually think the car is his. All joking aside he seems like an OK bloke. In addition, It will be interesting to see how his ownership experience pans out in comparison to mine and Fletch. Are there really only two deposited potential owners here on PH?

I'd imagine given the state of the housing market he's currently living in a house with a 100K mortgage with the house valued at 220K or something like that.

Good luck to him. Still don't know whether I rate him or not - his weekly column inches in Autocar are incredibly hit and miss. Hell, if he can rub Sutcliffe's nose in the smelly stuff then I say go for it.

Anjum about time

Out of interest when did you put your order in and have you got a ETA for it?
Did you go direct to the factory?

On the subject of Chris Harris, the article made it seem as if its his money and nowt to do with Autocar funding it.

Yes indeed, Greg.

But then again, a Celica VVTi with a Chevrolet 5.7 lump of solidified ferrite installed, might have much the same effect and ameliorate the damage being done to independent super car design the world over by virtue of Herr Piech's obsession with creating a new world order of VW-Audi hybrids.

Bring back the Countach!

Yes indeed, DeR.

But I'll wager the first time you see one, you'll be dribbling like a tape left on.

Hi Anjum

Good to see there is at least three of us on PH that have had the good taste to order one of these babies early enough.

When did you place your order? When do you think you will get it and what spec and colour do you plan on going for?

It's not only a good taste issue. I'd fancy one, but will have to wait till next internet bubble

also got one on order. Funny...but after reading Anjums comments on the Murci it struck me the same. It is undoubtedly awesome but just not for me for some reason. The Gallardo, however, has finally bitten me

Still undecided on the colour - although I reckon California Arancia might look naughty! Not too sure about the e-gear stuff though.

The thing that really appeals to me is the size. I hear that there is most likely to be a two wheel variant of the Gallardo - where as the Murci is a definate no no...

I would like to drive one before finally specing one - as the first Murcis had various isses (as you'd expect) - remember it took about 7 years of making the Diablo to get it right!

I'm on the list - but am not that concerned about getting the first ones (I had the 8th Murci slot...)

Bring it on!

Not just a taste issue, as already said! Most peoples issue is a trifle more vulgar old chap!

The closing paragraph of his article seemed to suggest that he was hoping for at least some "sponsorship" from the magazine, in the form of a sweet deal for regular columns about his ownership experience no doubt. Good luck to him.

ha ha after reading Autocar today I came on to post the same thing about Chris Harris. Something tells me his sole income is not his Autocar gig on an automotive journos wages- something like £20-£25K!! So I wonder if his 911 3.2 Clubsport will have to go to fund it?

I read a while back that he has done a bit of car dealing- obiously quite sucessfully it seems so any one here bought a car from him?

ps I would have a deposit on one if I could somehow get 'em to move the decimal point one or preferably 2 spaces to the left

Stunning car

I dropped into Lamborghini London yesterday to have a mooch around get any updates on the Gallardo.

It would appear that the first drives are going to take place in Rome at the end of this month. This is for dealers and journos only sadly.

I suppose this means that Chris is not a customer for a day

I don't think I would like being a salesman very much but this has to be a sweet gig. Weekend in Rome, being the first to drive the new toy, all on the company?

Mmmmmm

Well if you've got the cash to bag it outright, then that only leaves fuel and service bills. No big hurdle really. It would be a different matter of course if you had to scrape the deposit together and pay off a mega loan.
