Hi,

I was taking the swirl pot off to change the sensor ('93 4.3l pre serpentine)(part of a renovation I'm doing) and the two bottom bolts seemed to be stuck in place using a sealant of some sort. The top bolt was missing most of its thread and is probably in the block frown The bottom bolt, when removed, resulted in the remainder of the coolant coming out of the engine. Is the gasket knackered? I was also considering removing the pump to try to get the broken thread out of the engine. Has anyone got some experience doing this and an oppionion if I should take the pump off? Please helpsmile

No problem, those 2 bolts go thru the water (should be coated in sealant to stop rusting away) and screw into the block at the other side. Always lose coolant if you take off the pre-serp swirl tank.

Brillient thanks!!

I've taken off the water pump to have a look. All looks ok albeit the thread has broken off the end of one of the bolts and has stayed stuck in the blockfrown I'm sure if one bolt doesn't work it shouldn't matter too mutch. It was obviously broken before I took them out and didn't leak then. I'm not an advocate of bodging, but the alternative means taking off the timeing housing!
