Usual Friday evening...fly back to Edinburgh from manchester...take car for a spin however it wouldn't start. Called the AA and they jump started it and then I took it for a 20 mile run...no problems. This morning ame thing again. They checked the alternator and it was charging the battery. I'm thinking the battery is goosed however I believe it's not that old.

Any other things to look for?

Thanks

Derek

If it is charging then it couldnt be the big fuse. It could be an earth or battery. I would try a new battery, if you have check the other avenues.

How did he check it was charging - if he tested the output from the alternator directly then it could still be the big fuse.

was the battery dead flat? ie would not turn the starter? would suggest that maybe you have a constant drain, see if any lights are on -eg boot light

also from dead flat a jump and 20 mile rin IMHO would not do put too much charge to a battery particulalry if you are running with lights radio and air con.

beware that if you just get a battery then you will run fine for maybe 2-3weeks but then nowt because the original fault was not rectifed - been there got the t-shirt when I got my car, was told to leave it on charge overnight etc but this was just covering - I thought - battery problem but in fact alternator was cooked (literally).

get it tested by local garage - may save you several quid in the long term.

The car is fantastic....the only problems with the car have been clutch seals and this battery problem...both of which were absolutely fine when the car was bought from Gazzab. He's been in touch several times since the car was bought and been more than patient with my newbie questions. Not sure how you could draw this conclusion.....

Hello from USA.

Yeah must be a lemon !!!

The battery is not that old and comes with a 3 yr guarantee. You have a stack of spare big fuses. It is probably over a yr since the big fuse was last changed so might be worth changing that.

Might also be worth leaving it on charge over night to really refill the battery.

it'll be something simple smile Going to have a play tonight and i'm back up on Tuesday so if it's not the fuse will sort out a new battery. How's the holiday?
