I like to do my own servicing/repairs.

I read somewhere in the bible that the aircon has to be de-gassed when removing some engine components but I can't rember which. I think it was related to changing the camshaft.

Can the rocker covers be removed - the aircon pipes seem to run along the top of one by the photos.

You'll struggle to replace the camshaft without taking the engine out. Air-con won't make much difference.

I replaced rocker shafts and arms on mine without draining air-con. It did get in the way, but so does a lot of other stuff. I took the fan belt off, detached the aircon pump and cut through the tie-wraps on the pipes. This gave enough movement to do the job. With power steering as well though it was tricky getting the offside cover back on
