Hey, at the end of this month i'm going to visit my parents in the alps (near Chamonix), I'll take the motorway to Reims for my overnight stop, but I fancy some decent roads after that... I'll be on my bike, and would aim to get there by late afternoon.

Any suggestions as to what roads to take? I think after Nantua it's pretty straight forward, but I have no idea where to go through before that...

If you are heading via Nantua, then be sure to take the D979 east out of Bourg-en-Bresse. Cracking road.

This clip will give you a flavour as it was all filmed on the D979. (Apologies in advanced for the hackneyed choice of music)

Get off the motorway at Troyes and continue to Dijon on the RN.
After that back on until Bourg en Bresse then via Annecy.

Wot 'e said. There are loads of top quality driving roads between Troyes & Dijon (and actually down to Lyon) - bizarrely many of them have road names which correspond with Porsche model names:

Porsche 928, 959, 996, 968

That's funny about the Porsche models...

Thanks for the input guys, I'm still trying to decide which way to go... Annecy might be a detour too far, once I'm this close I'll wanna get there as quick as I can!
