How much to fix an aero kit?
Discussion
Anyone who can advise me on how much it costs to fix a GT aerokit to a standard Carrera 2 ?
I am currently looking at 2 cars, one with an aerokit and one without. The car without the aerokit is £2k dearer than the one with it, but to compensate, it has done 30,000 miles less than the car with the aerokit and has the OPC warranty included in the selling price.
Don't worry, I won't be putting a GT3 badge on the back.
I have deposit on the yellow 911 at Ivey and am due to complete around 12th August. The car is everything I want, it's just the mileage at 64K that is nagging me.
I've now seen the same car, same colour, minus aerokit somewhere else with half the miles and an OPC warranty thrown in. I wasn't looking for another car as I thought I had made my mind up, what do you think ?
You get loads of people on here going on about how higher mileage cars are fine if they have been looked after properly. This is true and yes you will pay a little less. However, the reality is that you just get stuffed even more on re-sale or part-ex when you come to change. You also can't get a warantly on a car with over 100k miles. I have owned a few cars and in my opinion the lower the mileage the more attractive the car assuming it's been looked after properly. If mileage was no issue then why is the average mileage for Glass guide values 12k a year for most cars and 6k a year for Porsches? Makes you wonder.

Approx 4.5k for me to get one fitted to a 997.....did the same as you are thinking and sourced the right Porsche, as I found that the aero kitted ones are in such a minority, I was going to be searching for years to get the right spec etc....worth every damn penny....I am currently looking at 2 cars, one with an aerokit and one without. PS. I'm having to get the Carrera S badge put back as it would not come off the old cover plate. I also got the parts back i.e. cone, spolier and rear cover plate, as they're not exactly cheap and you never know when you or a mate might need one one day....or eBay it....Gave the garage the option to keep them if they wanted to discount the total price....they said no and thought I would just give them the parts ! Why do they think that I would just give them over a k's worth of stuff, when they won't even knock a few hundred quid of the price....
Deffo go for low miles,911s do last for ever but parts do wear and high milers will cost more,so if there is a chance for low miles go for it ,you may not even do 30k before you sell it ,so you will get your money back. Also loads of people do GT3 kits so shop around, better off get a GT3....
Well done youve changed your name!

Car had the RS spoiler on...guess that might have been you. I live in Bracknell, not too far from the town Centre.
The thing with the low miler is that if I go for it, then I am likely to lose the £1k I have given as deposit to the dealer with the other car. Obviously, they have had it off the market since I put the deposit down and it is at my risk. Not sure the low miler has a sun roof, but it does have yellow piped seats (although not a big deal for me). The car at Charles Ivey also has a rotating face Kenwood stereo which is a plus.

Difficult one, high miles could cost long term, but with a good warrenty you should be ok,but I would weigh up the cost of the mods you want to do,with the chance of some high milage bills, which could be a lots more....forget sunroof /stereo/deposit,not important,I used to worry about those things.
Must have been me,car was stickered up with Team Langoustine, but I destickered it last weekend,I'm from Wokingham, check out Thames valley forum for meet ups, also Porsche club met today in Ascot...

an aerokit can be bought for around 2.5k.
Paint and fitting maybe another 500-1k
So around 3k, but I wouldn't expect it to add that to a second hand 911.
Just like all options, it's not truly got any second hand value, and is just a plus to the right buyer.
Personally I think the side skirts are a must on a C2 - almost looks naked without. That said, they are very 'aftermarket' in their nature, even when factory fitted - early ones epoxied in place with a rail screwed to the sill, later ones held on by a few screws and a thin bit of double sided tape!
Side skirts can be had for a few hundred quid and added very easily.
Cheers

I am going to see the other car in the week and will make a decision then depending on the condition of the car. Out of interest the low mile car specification is described as a C16 import. What does that mean ? An import or something ?
Thanks for your perspective and info on Thames Valley stuff. I've had Porsche fever ever since my mate Andy Tims took me on a track day to Donnington in his MK1 GT3.
I thought your car looked the dogs b's by the way.

Oh it is an import,no real difference but they have a perceived lower value,my advice, think it through,I looked at 13 GT3 before found mine, took 7 months,so I would say dont jump at it unless you are sure, cos a better one will come up when its to late,Im away tomorrow, but if you want advice Im back in a week and a half I would be happy to help with any problems then.
ps - just looked at that Ivey car - that's not a GT aero kit.
It's got a fixed Carrera rear spoiler and aerokit sideskirts. It has the standard front PU. It's the same as my car.
If you get the porsche factory spec (a friendly OPC would print it off for you with the reg / VIN) it will tell you what was factory fitted. Usually people specced the spoiler, then added the sideskirts later - that's the case with my car.
Makes it significantly less cost than a full aerokit.
