Ever since I've had the Nitron Shocks fitted to my Tamora, the drivers door suddenly comes open when driving over uneven roads. I attempt to close it several times until about the 6th time it actually closes and the door open warning on the ECU disappears. This has started to become annoying as I'm hooning about and suddenly the drivers door flies open, embarrassing, especially to people who see the car and jaws drop when the drivers door suddenly opens as I'm movingirked

I guess the door catch is somewhat nackered or needs adjusting. Any thoughts, as I was in the process of showing a Z4 what performance was all about only to find that my Bcensoredy door came open and whilst I was trying to close it got over taken by this bloody Z4nono, Scensoredt, ccensoredp, Bcensoredks, any other swear word.............

Craig

If I was a betting man I would suggest that the car was left outside during the recent heavy rain during / before/after shocks fitted. Water has got into the electrics and is causing intermittent shorting of the door switch / door relay.

Alternative theories:
Had you, by any chance, recently washed the car? Again water ingress to blame. I have even heard that these symptoms can be caused by vigorous windscreen scooshing - allegedly!

Totally with Scally on this one. My old 4.5 Cerbie used to have exactly the same problem. There was nothing wrong with the catch, just with electrics, suspected to have been caused by water ingress. Got quite entertaining at times, opening at 70+ mph on dual carriageways, opening into another car whilst stood side-by-side at traffic lights, then not opening when it was supposed to... Definitely sounds familiar. Dom at Power sorted it for me.

Ian,
electrical contact spray is brilliant stuff, locate the door catch electrics and go crazy, should dry it out in about 10mins.

ps. if your going past dulfords say hello to my car, getting withdrawl symtoms. typical that as soon as she goes on holiday the rain stops and the sun comes out. as soon as i pick her up i bet it starts raining again!

Hi Ian, is you door fixed now? Did it just need drying out or was it something else?

My door's doing the same and I've just had it back from having a new front end so it could have sat outside and got wet....

Hi Andrew,

I have'nt had a chance to look at it yet, but will do something about it this weekend. I think it is water getting into the door lock area. I'll let you know the outcome.

Sorry to hear about your Tam having a new front end. What happened?

The original thread's here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Got the work done by Horizon Motorsport and very pleased with what they've done. The front's back to how it was when new with all the other black detailing on the bonnet repainted to match the front. Took them three weeks in all.

I'm taking my car to TVR Power tomorrow to look at the door so I'll let you know what they do.

Cheers... Andrew

Just been to TVR Power. They thought it may be the control boxes so swapped them over to see if the problem switched to the passenger's door. But as the driver's door was only opening going over bumps it's unlikely to be the control box.
The mechanism on the driver's side looked a little dirty so them spayed it with some sort of lube and it seems to have done the trick. The spray comes out finely and sets like a grease and may have been called HSS2000 (motorcycle chain lube is close).
Cheers... Andrew
