Rant time ! ....

OK, time for a rant ! I'll blank out the dealer name to comply with PH's naming and shaming policy ! but...let's just say they are a HUGE volkswagen main dealer!

Last friday I phoned Volkswagen booked an appointment to go and test drive a lovely looking used R32 on the Saturday. I was looking forward the the day as I'd got a few drives booked throughout the afternoon too

Anyway, I turned up and met the salesman and after about 2 mins of pleasantries he asks if he'll sell me a car today....
I explained that not definitely as i'd got my day of testing ahead and was told.....

wait for it.....


Oh, sorry..if we're not going to sell it to you today you cant test drive it ! what !

So i've made an appointent, driven 25 miles, arrived on time (unlike the salesman i might add) and I can't take it for a test..

"no, I'm afraid that with our prestigious models we can't put any miles on them unless we know there's a sale - it's our new policy"

Now when I arrived, they had every chance of selling me a car. Rather obviously they have no chance of that now !

oddly enough I didn't come across that policy at any of the other 5 dealers I went to ! As luck would have it the Audi garage I went to later had just taken in an R32 so I went out in it with them !

GTI seems to be the more "popular" buy. I used to drive Mk5 GTi,loved it to bits but havent driven new r32 yet. Since you were at the Audi dealership, did you try new S3??

Love it do I have to sign a contract saying I will buy it before I test drive it ?

If not then I would have said yes I may buy it if I like it then take it out, rag it, scare the crap out of the salesmen, then tell him you don't like him so won't be buying it.

Should have just said yes.

It's like going into DFS and being told you can't sit on a sofa unless you're going to buy it !

Nope, but only because i'm looking for a DSG daily drive. New S3 is manual only. Did have a poke around the one in the showroom though...lovely piece of kit.

The car that I liked the most was the A3 170 STronic Tdi. A bit Laggy-Surgy but otherwise a cracking all rounder. I think it's because I was pleasntly surprised with the quitness/go/comfort/quality, whereas I already expected that from the others.

I rocked up to an Audi Gargage, and asked for a test drive in a £49k RS4 on Sunday. Not a biggie you might say, but I was wearing shorts t-shirt, and unshaven. Still no biggie, but then you have to realise I have two full sleaved tattoo arms and a shaven head.

Still let me have a drives. I was just curious how it compared to the Cerb...

Verdict, nice car, but not a Cerb...

When you say not a cerb do you mean it will corner and doesn't smell like a cannoe?

I test drove an M5 last week. Verdict: nice car but no Atom. I realised this when I noticed they were completely different cars designed to appeal to a different segment with very different pros and cons.

Oh and one said M5 on the back.

Didnt say I didn like the car, they are just two different animals. I wouldnt have driven one if I didnt like one.

I thought the handling was excellent, and the car felt like it wanted to be driven, and if you were on a hoon from point a to point b and not all straight roads, the RS4 would win.

The car easily handled the power it had, to the point that I think it could take and extra 100 - 150 bhp more, before it became a scary car, if you were to 'just plant power'.

My cerb is in the region of 400BHP per tonne, so there was a noticalble diff between the two power wise, but it was a nice car.

As for the cannoe quip, I can only smell the nice leather smell in my Cerb, is a sorted car BTW.

so what would they have done if you said yes you'd buy it, took it for a test drive and then you said....well I can't get comfortable in the seat so its not for me, so I'm not buying it? Stupid policy on VW's part

What's bizarre, I didnt compare two cars at all, I just said it was not a Cerb.

We have a GTI with DSG, tried a R32 (we have had 2 Mk4 versions!), personally I prefer the GTI !

So i've put my complaint in writing. Have asked to be informed of the results his investigation into the matter....
