In the book it recommends 0-40 Mobil 1 but having spoken to various other service places none use Mobil 1. I'm going to have the oil changed as I've been topping up with 0-40 and spoke to the people who serviced it last and they confirmed it filled using 10-50 semi.

What are people finding is the best oil for the Speed 6?

0-40 get hot quicker, but disappears down the exhaust.

I use 10-40 fully synth, but some say semi is asgood / better

Used the following in my previous 2000 Tuscan:-

Castrol GTX mineral oil (10W50) for running in and up to 6K miles.

Mobil 1 0W40 from 6K miles although had quiet high consumption with this 600 to 700 miles/litre.

Castrol RS10W60 from 10K miles still had quiet high consumption with this although better than the Mobil 1 800 to 900 miles/litre.

Engine top end was rebuilt at 22K miles, carried on using the Castrol RS10W60 and consumption was about 2K miles/litre.

At 24K miles switched to Castrol Magnetec 5W40 semi synthetic as advised fully synthetic was not really necessary for normal road use and for the rest of the time I had the car it hardly used any oil.

My new 2006 Tuscan S was run in and up to 5K miles on Mobil 15W50 mineral oil & then changed to Mobil 1 0W40 & so far oil consumption has been virtually zero.

I've had the Castrol edge 10w60 recommended by one of the service guys so going to let them do a quick oil change, by the time I buy 8 litres and a filter it wasn't a lot more for a basic oil change.

Check the oil thread in the "General TVR stuff" forum.

Simon or Guy from Opie oils will give you expert advice.

Checked that thread and they are saying 0w-40 mobil1 but all the other specialists are saying that it too thin for the Speed 6. Think I'll go with the take the specialists view over the oil salesmen lol.

another vote here for the 0/40 being too thin and it drinking it like petrol ...i use 15/50 Silkolene Pro...mainly because its what i run my other car on...much better oil consumption with that

I have also ran mine in and up to 5K miles on Mobil 15W50 mineral oil & then changed to Mobil 1 0W40 & so far oil consumption has been virtually zero.

Just make sure that I keep to low revs until up to 60C then anything goes.
