Who do people use for breakdown cover ?
Do any of the main providers have policies that are tailered for classic or special cars ?

Temperature gauge sat on red for a while on sat on the "fill the bowl" run on sat at Rockinham and it got me thinking......although bet we weren't the only ones !!!

Your thoughts welcome please guys

My current insurers (Footman James) include a breakdown and recovery package as part of the insurance. As I'm already in the AA, I tried to opt out, but they wouldn't let me!

Next year, I'll be insuring with Hagerty. I don't know if they have a breakdown / recovery option?

Hi Deco - did`nt see you on Sat at rockingham by the way, we had a WWMTVRCC party corral in the inner paddock
I just use RAC which has worked fine on the odd occasion I needed help in both UK and Europe too.
If your concerned about getting warm I would get a Kenlowe "pusher" fitted with manual overide switch - did the Track on both Saturday & Sunday and temp stayed at 92 - 95 on both occasions - and it was really slow and a lot hotter on Sunday!!!

I've been with the AA for 14 years,
Only had to call them twice, once for the audi, battery just went pop.

And the other time in the 400 when the heads went.
Took a while for them get get me on a Tilt slide, as it was the only thing it would fit. I think they know better now. but the guy said if you tell them you have a feza, then they will allways send a tilt and slide.

I use these people now.

http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/

If you break down, you ring them and they send out the local garage to fix it or relay you like the AA/RAC. The difference is you pay the garage cash, card or invoice. Then claim the money back in full from autoaid.

Cost for the years insurance? £32.

Worth filling in a form for the money you save.

I have used them once when I killed my trailer. Local garage took the trailer home and left me carry on my day. Paid by CC, filled in the claim form cheque arrived in a couple of days. Sorted.

Wee man.

I use a firm that uses the local breakdown garages to attend. In my experience they tow rather than attempt to fix. I assume there is more money in it? On AA now and when the other lot runs out I will not renew.

PS, once for the Tiv, quite a few for the old festa. One case it was a wire off the alternator. They were about to tow to a garage and leave it there overnight until it opened. Told them to get it home and I got the torch out and fixed it ten minutes later!

As many have said Peter, it's usually cheapest through your insurance policy, I'm with Zurich for all cars and comprehensive breakdown is thrown in.

Didn't see you on Sunday, mine was running warm but the fans cut in to keep it under control. The Tuscan behind me however was doing a great impression of a kettleeek

I've been told its not a good idea to toe a TVR with rover box, more than 10 miles, else it can wreck the box, but I asume you me trailer away, not toe.

other problem with local garages is they may not have a truck the TVR will fit on.
