Audi Relaunches Auto Union Type C

As a pedal car

Looks big from a distance, doesn't it

Audi is offering a limited run of 999 Auto Union Type C grand prix cars.

There is a catch, though. The cars are 1:2 scale and there is no engine, only pedals.

It’s suitable for children up to 4ft 5in and will cost a staggering £7000.

Each car is built in-house at Ingolstadt and is made up of over 900 different parts.

Its ability is quite scary though; it has hydraulic disc brakes, seven speed hub gearing and a back pedalling function.

Audi expects (quite rightly) that most will end up in the hands of adult collectors.

Now that's a tough decision. OK I'll have two. One original, one modded.

This'd be SOOOO cool for my son, get him used to the ways of the road early.

Although one of our local Jag dealers had a gorgeous white E-Type pedal car in their showroom. I was drooling over it, my son still prefers the looks of the nasty el-cheapo electrics they have at Toys'R'Us though. I'll teach him the error of his ways (I've already started a little bit - my 318iS isn't that fast, but he loves the feeling of speed on corners).

You'll have to be 4ft 5" to get in though. Unless you want your kid to do 0-60 in less than 3 secs...

Or more importantlty 0 - 60 - 0 in 6.2 seconds. Although they have to learn sometime.

Ideal antidote for molly-coddling parents, whose precious brats need a 4x4 instead of a bike to get to school; the vicious swing-axle oversteer will kill 'em dead.

My god, Audi's marketing wank reaches new depths.

More weight and complication results in a less focused machine. Not only is this sad trend continuing, but now it even trickles down to pedal cars. biglaugh
