Fernies replaced one a little while ago and it made a big difference.
Everything was fine for a couple of weeks, but then the problems come back - hesitation under hard acceleration.

So I'm going to have a go at treplacing the other myself.
I've bought a new coil using the part number supplied in the sticky - great and just £32.

I presume they are located in the "V" somewhere as I see no ignition leads coming out above the induction pipes.
So is it just a case of taking the induction pipes off to get to them?
Any tips?

Cheers

Yep yours is a 4.5 I think, so you'll take off the inlet pipes, then you'll see the two coil packs towards the back of the V.

With long sockets, allen keys and alien-type arms and hands you might be able to wriggle the coil pack out the back, otherwise you'll have to loosen the fuel rail to get the old pack out and the new pack in.

As usual, expect no knuckles left afterwards.

Cheers Andy.

Sounds a bit of a mare.
Oh well, no pain, no gain!
(At least it will keep the misses happy if it doesn't have to go back to the garage)

Are you sure it is another coil pack, could it not just be old leads or even one slightly loose lead (been having a nightmare getting a couple of mine to stay on of late) and if they have been refitted a week or so ago then something could have worked itself off - of course you may have eliminate this area already, in which case just ignore me.

I had an annoying misfire that kept coming and going in this area. It turned out to be the low voltage plug to one of the coil packs coming apart.

The leads were replaced during the service back in Feb and I haven't done many miles since. Guess they could of come loose. Although for 32 notes, I'm happy to replace the other coil anyway. At least I know both have been changed at roughly the same time. I will check the leads though. I may even get some Magnecors to replace them although I asked Fernies about better quality leads once and they said it was a waste of money as they always replace the leads every service anyway as they don't last?? Any views on the Magnecor leads, specifically the 10mm race ones?

I find the hesitation a real annoyance that spoils the drivability.

Had a go at changing a coil pack last night. Basically a pain in the arse! Got as far as removing the windscreen cowling, induction pipes, and air boxes (to check leads at spark plugs), but cannot get my fat hands in amoungst the Fuel rail and electrics. Had to put it all back together as I have no garage and it was getting on a bit.

What do I have to do to get the coil packs out?
Remove the fuel rail? What does that involve and what shouldn't I touch?
