Hi

I have an Chevy LS1 to rebuild but the first task will be getting it rebored or sleeved maybe, looks like water sat in a couple of the bores for a while and has pitted the sidewalls. Ideally this would be a machine shop in the south somewhere.

Cheers

LS1/6 blocks cannot be bored. They can take a +0.005" hone, and thats it. The liners are cast into the block, and extremely thin.

Re-sleeving is a major job, and I doubt anyone in the UK has the ability to do one safely and reliably.

A new block is $1000, and could be a good optionn.

Im about to get my LS6 block honed that 5 thou by a company in York. They can do this properly, with a deck plate etc.

But even they wont tackle fitting a new liner.

Where about are the pit marks? If below the ring lands at bdc I wouldn't be to concerned. If minor and above the ringland I'd do a light hone and then leave bedding in to the rings. I've had blocks honed before.

I did wonder as I not seen different size pistons around for them etc.

5 thou is not a lot I dont think that will take care of it. Plus I dont know if its been honed before.

Is there an oversise set of rings available or do you use standard ones after the honing.

I will still need to get it to a shop to do the honing any recomendations

Doubt it's been honed again but check bore size to be certain. Yes, you can get oversized rings or use file to fit rings from total seal.

Yes, rings are easy.

Contact Dave at Performance Unlimited in York, he's the UK Total Seal guy, and will also be the guys machining my block out the 5 thou.

info AT performanceunlimited DOT co DOT uk 01904489332

But as Mike says, its worth having a go at honing it yourself if its just for a normal build up. Worst can happen is you wont do it any good.

Thanks, I will give them a shout,
Also a few cheap bare blocks in the US on ebay, might be worth a punt I suppose.

I thought I had read somewhere that Darton do sleeves for these blocks,

They do...but you still need someone capable of fitting them. And it isnt likely to happen in the UK.

And for the price of a Darton sleeved block, you could probably buy 2 or 3 new standard blocks.

I can do the Dartons in the UK. As Stevie says for a stock engine a new or used stock block is still the cheapest option. Do you want a second opinion about your block?

Either send or bring me the block so I can assess/measure it for you and advice you what you should do or send me some very good pics. No charge for me to look at itsmile

I have a honed monaro block here which is within tolerence.
